Abstract

A cinematographic apparatus which is adapted to be used with film-storing cartridges, which comprises film extraction means which have an operating and a rest position and which includes feeding means and stripper means. In an operating position of the film extraction means the feeding means and the stripper means abut a film coil within the cartridge. Operating means are provided for the film extraction means, and locking means have a rest position and a locking position. The operating means are displaceable to their operating position only, when the locking means are in their rest position, whereas the locking means are displaceable to their locking position only when the operating means are out of their operating position. Biasing means urge the locking means towards the locking position. Pawl means are adapted to secure the locking means in their rest position and controlled by the operating means. The pawl means release the locking means, when the operating means are out of their rest position.

PATENTEDJUN 8197i 3.683654 sum 1 0F 2 FIGJ LOCKING MEANS lN CINEMATOGRAPHIC APPARATUS The invention relates to locking means in cinematographic apparatus, in particular in projectors, which are arranged for operation with film-storing cartridges and which show an extraction mechanism consisting in a belt drive or a friction roller drive, respectively, and a stripper, insertable into the cartridge, whereby the belt drive or the friction roller drive and the stripper abut the film coil. By the present invention an arrangement of that kind will be simplified and improved. Substantially the invention consists in operating means for the extraction mechanism and a lock bolt or the like, which lock each other reciprocally, whereby on the one hand the operating means are only displaceable to the operating position, when the lock bolt is in its rest position, on the other hand the lock bolt is only then displaceable to its locking position, when the operating means are out of their operating position, whereby there is further provided a latch, which secures the lock bolt or the like in its rest position against the force of a spring or the like and which is controllable by the operating means and releases the lock bolt upon displacement of the operating means to their operating position.
Further features and advantages of the invention will become apparent in the specification of embodiments schematically illustrated in the drawings.

Film cartridges 1 of different size may be fixed to a projector by latching means 2. Substantially the latching means 2 consist in two latching plates 4, 5, shiftable towards each other and showing latching members 3. These latching plates 4, 5 are approached to each other by a spring 6 and abut one of two diameters of a cartridge scanner 7, which releases the latching plates 4, 5 for locking only then, when a cartridge is inserted into the projector. Both of the latching plates 4, 5 are connected on their rear ends with a scanning pin 9 by elbow levers 8. By means of this scanning pin 9 the latching plates are replaced from their locking position to their open position.
In order to feed the leading end of the film out of the cartridge, there is provided an extraction mechanism 10 consisting in a stripper 11 and a film drive 12. The latter shows a platen 14 supporting two rollers 15, 16. The rollers 15, 16 and also a drive roller 17 fastened to the shaft 13 are looped by a belt 18. The function of these parts has already been sufficiently known and need not further be explained. A spring 19 continually urges the platen 14 in the sense of a rotating motion towards the cartridge 1. Likewise the stripper 11 is urged by a spring 20. The stripper 11 however props with an extension to a bolt 21, which prevents the deviation of the stripper 11 along two guiding curves 22. The guiding curves 22 are provided in a control slide 23 shiftable by means of an operating key 24. The control slide 23 is thereby guided by slots 25, which are penetrated by the shaft 13, the bolt 21 and a further bolt 26. Just as the stripper abuts with its extension the bolt 21, also the platen 14 shows an extension 27, which abuts a stop 28 situated on the control slide 23 under the force of a spring 19.
If new the control slide 23 is shifted in the sense of the arrow 29, the stripper l1 and the film drive 12 are deviated into the cartridge 1. At the end of the motion of the control slide 23, a latch 30 jumps into a groove 31 at the lower edge of the control slide and locks the same in its end position. Simultaneously the latch 30 operates a feeding mechanism 43 for the takeup reel 32, which is only schematically illustrated. Only when the film is fed out of the cartridge and threaded to the takeup reel, the latch 30 is released by the threading mechanism 43, whereupon the control slide 23 returns to its initial position under the action of a spring 33.
lt should now be prevented on the one hand that with not correctly locked cartridge 1, the drive means of the extraction mechanism are switched on by error, which might possibly damage the extraction mechanism 10. On the other hand the control slide 23 is not allowed to be operated twice, when the film is already threaded to the takeup reel 32 and the control slide 23 has taken its initial position. This namely would damage the film. For the purpose to avoid the erroneous operation of keys, it has already been known with tape recorders, to assign a safety key to the recording key, whereby the latter can only be operated simultaneously with the safety key. It is thought that the simultaneous operation of two keys could only occur arbitrarily.
With the invention a new way has been found in that the safety device works automatically, i.e. the user need not operate two keys simultaneously and an incorrect manipulation is avoided. For this purpose the rear end of the latching plate 4 shows an oblique plane 35 on a bending 34. This oblique plane 35 cooperates with the oblique end 36 ofa lock bolt 37, which is held in its rest position against the force of a spring 38 by a spring-urged latch 40 engaging a notch 39 of the lock bolt 37. In this position the control slide 23 can be shifted in the direction of the arrow 29 along a lug 41 of the lock bolt 37 (see HO. 1). Before the control slide 23 reaches its end position, in which it is locked by the latch 30, a stop lug 42 butts against the latch 40, which releases the lock bolt 37 (see FIGS. 1, 3). Under the action of a spring 38 the lock bolt 37 then moves in axial direction until the lug 41 of the lock bolt abuts the upper edge 45 of the control slide 23. The control slide 23 and the lock bolt 37 remains so long in this position, until the film has reached the takeup reel 32 and is wound up on it. The feeding mechanism 43 is thereby deviated in counterclockwise sense from the range of the takeup reel 32, for instance by the film pull (which is not illustrated), whereby the latch 30 is released from the notch 31 of the control slide 23 and the control slide 23 returns to its initial position under the force of the spring 33. In the course of this movement the stripper l1 and the platen l4 butt with their extensions against the stops 21, 28 and are deviated out of the cartridge 1.
As soon as the front end of the control slide 23 has passed the lug 41 of the lock bolt 37, the latter is further deviated in axial direction under the force of a spring 38 (see FIG. 4). Thus the lug 41 comes to lie in front of the control slide 23, so that it cannot be operated for a second time after terminated feeding out or feeding in, respectively.
When after terminated film presentation, the cartridge 1 is released by pressure of the scanning pin 9, the latching plate 4 moves to the left and abuts with the oblique plane 35 the oblique end 36 of the lock bolt 37. Under renewed tension of the spring 38 the lock bolt 37 is displaced so long, until the latch 40 jumps into the notch 39 (see FIG. 2 and the dashdotted position of the bending 34). In this position it is impossible to switch on the drive for the shaft 13 of the film drive 12.
For the purpose to limit the motion of the control slide 23 with unlocked cartridge 1, the scanning pin 9 is elongated at the bottom beyond the pivotal point of the two elbow levers 8 and shows a stop bolt 44 at its lower end. With uncorrectly locked cartridge, the scanning pin 9 is in its lower position, whereby the stop bolt 44 extends in the path of motion of a bar connected with the control slide 23. The control slide 23 is connected with a switch of a separate motor or with a coupling (not shown), which at the end of the motion of the control slide in the sense of the arrow 29, establishes the drive connection between a continually rotating shaft and the shaft 13. When however the stop bolt 44 limits the stroke of the control slide 23, the feeding mechanism is not drawn in into the cartridge 1 on the one hand and on the other hand, the drive connection with the shaft 13 is not established. When however the control slide 23 is already in its end position, in which the extraction mechanism 10 is in operation, an erroneous releasing of the cartridge 1 cannot occur. When namely in this position the scanning pin 9 is operated, the lock bolt 44 butts against the control slide 23.
It is evident that control slide, locking means of the cartridge and feeding-in and feeding-out mechanisms may be constructed in another way than illustrated. Accordingly also the inventive locking means will have to be adapted to the constructive data. Further it is quite conceivable to provide the inventive locking means also in magnetic sound recorders.
What I claim is:
I. In a cinematographic apparatus adapted to be used with film-storing cartridges, film extraction means having an operating and a rest position and including feeding means and stripper means, in anoperating position of said film extraction means said feeding means and said stripper means abutting a film coil within said cartridge, operating means for said film extraction means, locking means having a rest position and a locking position, said operating means being displaceable to their operating position only when the locking means are in their rest position, whereas said locking means are displaceable to their locking position only when said operating means are out of their operating position, biasing means urging said locking means towards the locking position, pawl means adapted to secure said locking means in their rest position and controlled by said operating means, said pawl means releasing said locking means, when said operating means are out of their rest position.
2. in a cinematographic apparatus adapted to be used with interchangeable film-storing cartridges, film extraction means having an operating and a rest position and including feeding means and stripper means, in an operating position of said film extraction means said feeding means and said stripper means abutting a film coil within said cartridge, operating means for said film extraction means, locking means having a rest position and a locking position, said operating means being displaceable to their operating position only when the locking means are in their rest position, whereas said locking means are displaceable to their locking position only when said operating means are out of their operating position, biasing means urging said locking means towards the locking position, pawl means adapted to secure said locking means in their rest position and controlled by said operating means, said pawl means releasing said locking means, when said operating means are out of their rest position, resetting means adapted to reset said locking means to their rest position, releasing means operated, when said cartridges are changed and controlling said resetting means.
3. In a cinematographic apparatus according to claim 2 wherein said releasing means controlling the resetting means are cartridge-latching means.
4. In a cinematographic apparatus adapted to be used with film-storing cartridges, film extraction means having an operating and a rest position and including feeding means and stripper means, in an operating position of said film extraction means said feeding means and said stripper means abutting a film coil within said cartridge, operating means for said film extraction means, locking means having a rest position and a locking position, said operating means being displaceable to their operating position only when the locking means are in their rest position, whereas said locking means are displaceable to their locking position only when said operating means are out of their operating position, biasing means urging said locking means towards the locking position, pawl means adapted to secure said locking means in their rest position and controlled by said operating means, said pawl means releasing said locking means, when said operating means are out of their rest position, cartridge-latching means including slider means, said slider means being slidable in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the displacing movement of said locking means, at least one of said locking means and said slider means having a surface inclined to its axis and facing the respective other means.

Claims (4)

1. In a cinematographic apparatus adapted to be used with filmstoring cartridges, film extraction means having an operating and a rest position and including feeding means and stripper means, in an operating position of said film extraction means said feeding means and said stripper means abutting a film coil within said cartridge, operating means for said film extraction means, locking means having a rest position and a locking position, said operating means being displaceable to their operating position only when the locking means are in their rest position, whereas said locking means are displaceable to their locking position only when said operating means are out of their operating position, biasing means urging said locking means towards the locking position, pawl means adapted to secure said locking means in their rest position and controlled by said operating means, said pawl means releasing said locking means, when said operating means are out of their rest position.
2. In a cinematographic apparatus adapted to be used with interchangeable film-storing cartridges, film extraction means having an operating and a rest position and including feeding means and stripper means, in an operating position of said film extraction means said feeding means and said stripper means abutting a film coil within said cartridge, operating means for said film extraction means, locking means having a rest position and a locking position, said operating means being displaceabLe to their operating position only when the locking means are in their rest position, whereas said locking means are displaceable to their locking position only when said operating means are out of their operating position, biasing means urging said locking means towards the locking position, pawl means adapted to secure said locking means in their rest position and controlled by said operating means, said pawl means releasing said locking means, when said operating means are out of their rest position, resetting means adapted to reset said locking means to their rest position, releasing means operated, when said cartridges are changed and controlling said resetting means.
3. In a cinematographic apparatus according to claim 2 wherein said releasing means controlling the resetting means are cartridge-latching means.
4. In a cinematographic apparatus adapted to be used with film-storing cartridges, film extraction means having an operating and a rest position and including feeding means and stripper means, in an operating position of said film extraction means said feeding means and said stripper means abutting a film coil within said cartridge, operating means for said film extraction means, locking means having a rest position and a locking position, said operating means being displaceable to their operating position only when the locking means are in their rest position, whereas said locking means are displaceable to their locking position only when said operating means are out of their operating position, biasing means urging said locking means towards the locking position, pawl means adapted to secure said locking means in their rest position and controlled by said operating means, said pawl means releasing said locking means, when said operating means are out of their rest position, cartridge-latching means including slider means, said slider means being slidable in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the displacing movement of said locking means, at least one of said locking means and said slider means having a surface inclined to its axis and facing the respective other means.
