UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS KOOHKA, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
TOY BOWLING-ALLEY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 358,359. dated February 22, 1887.
Application filed December 11,1886. Serial No. 221,216. (No model.)
citizen of the United States, residing at Jersey City, Hudson county, State of New Jersey, haveinventedanImprovedToyBowling-Alley, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a toy bowling alley in which the pins are attached to aslide, so that they may all be set up at the same time.
The bowling-alley is provided with a propeller of peculiar construction, all as hereinafter more fully pointed out.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a top View of my improved bowling-alley. Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the same. Fig. 3
is a longitudinal central section of the same;-
and Fig. 4.- is a detailed top view of the propeller, showing it partly cocked.
The letter a represents the game-board, upon which are placed nine (more or less) pins, 1). Beneath each pin 12 the board a is perforated for the passage of a string,,c, attached at one end to the base of pin 1) and at the other end to a slide, d, operated by rod 6. Each string 0 passes over a roller, f, journaled in stationary bearings g beneath board a. h are springs for drawing the slide (1 back after it has been pulled out. 1
After the pins b have been thrown down by means of a ball shot from the propeller, hereinafter described, the rod 6 is drawn out to pull string a, and to thereby set up pins b.- The rod e is then released, the slide will be drawn back, and thus the strings will be left the handle out the springs are contracted to propel chamber 1 and the charge contained therein forward upon the release of the handle. It will be seen that this propeller may be revolved so as to be pointed to any direction.
I am aware of Patent No. 149,418, granted to T. A. Schwennesen, April 7, 1874., which shows a toy bowling-alley in which the pins are connected to strings by means of which they may be set up. I am also aware of Patent No. 153,236, granted to J. Butt, July 21, 1874. which shows a toy bowling-alley having aspring-plungerthatturns upon apivot. These constructions I do not claim; but
I do claim The combination of perforated gameboard a with pins 1), strings c, slide (1, rod 6, spring h, and with rollers f, journaled in stationary bearings g beneath board a, the strings 0 being attached at one end to pins 1) and at the other end to slide d, and passing around rollers f, substantially as specified.
