The hounds spread outtoward the base and unite with the lower section F, of the fifth-wheel, and forming about one-half of the circle. This section 1 i has a recess on each side of the circle,.and at i right angles totheslit forthe tongue, for the reception of the axle-tree, as seen at a, Fig. 2.
G represents wrought-iron braces, the back A The upper section F of the fifth-wheel is circular, with a small groove running around the under side, as seen at e, to admit the heads of the bolts, there being a like groove in the section F. The upper section F is secured to the bolster by two bolts, 1) b, and to the reach by two others, I) I), placed at right angles to the former. Upon the forward and inner edge of thelower section F is secured an iron clamp, h, Fig. 3, which hooks over the inner edge of the section F to keep the two parts in contact. The king-bolt G passes through the center of the bolster, the center of the circle F F, and through the axle-tree, thus fo'rming the center of motion for the fifth-wheel.
What I claim as my improvement, and de- :sire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described special construction and arrangement of the hounds and fifth-wheel,
when combined and operating conjointly, as specified.
