The springX then advanoes the loclcbar V,

and thereby also trips said lateh 10 to hook ont0 said hook0n the guard-lever. Saidcatehes are however, so shaped that they shall hold by a slant hitch 011110 eaoh other in order that the guard-lever m'ay be unlocked by using f0roe enough 130 spring the lock-bar V back a little, tl1us freeing said catches f-rom eaeh other without: undoing the l0ok of the sear aud the hammer, the spring X retnrning said bar again t0 its normal position for loekiug the same. So, likewise, after said parts are interlocked,hhe guard-levor may be broughb to locked position by simplyp'ressing it firmly against the stock,which meets the contingenoy when the guard lev er has been used for renn0ving a cartridge fr0m the gun-barrel 0r in loading il: while Lhe rear sight was not ele vated, as firing was n0t to ensue.
