Abstract

An attachment device having a plate securable to a side of a scraper chain conveyor having outwardly projecting pins which pass through apertures in said plate. Disc elements are placed onto the pins to lie against the plate and a locking rod is passed through diametric bores in the pins at the side of the elements remote from the plate. The elements have wedge surfaces, preferably helical, on their faces adjacent the locking rod so that upon rotation of one or both discs the plate will be urged inwardly and axially of the pins and locked in position.

The elements have wedge surfaces, preferably helical, on their faces adjacent the locking rod so that upon rotation of one or both discs the plate will be urged inwardly and axially of the pins and locked in position.

ATTACHMENT DEVICES FOR SCRAPER CHAIN CONVEYORS BACKGROUND TO THE INVENTION An attachment device is known for securing attachments to a scraper chain conveyor having pins or the like extending outwardly from one sidewall thereof. In one known device a nut extends over a threaded :portion of each of the pins to clamp a spacer piece to the sidewall of the conveyor. The spacer piece serves to define one oi more chain passages and the nuts additionally serve to secure attachments to the conveyor. For this purpose the nuts can have recesses into which locking elements can be driven. This known device can be mounted and dismantled comparatively easily and rapidly. However the device does suffer from a major disadvantage. If excessive demands are made of the conveyor excessive vibration is apt to cause the nuts to work loose. As a result the attachments can rattle causing excessive noise and in time the attachments can become detached from the conveyor. To combat this it is necessary'for the nuts to be tightened from time to time but regular maintenance of this nature is not very easy in underground workings. An object of the present invention is to provide a device which will enable attachments to be mounted on a conveyor sidewall and removed with case which device operates reliably and does not require maintenance.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION According to one aspect of the invention there is provided an attachment device for scraper chain conveyors said device comprising: I
a. a plate having at least one aperture therein adapted to receive a pin projecting outwardly from a side of a scraper chain conveyor;
b. a disc element adapted to receive said pin and lie adjacent an outerface of said plate;
c. a locking rod adapted to passthrough a diametric bore in said pin on the side of said disc element remote from said plate; and
d. at least one wedge surface on a face of the disc element adjacent said locking rod adapted to urge the plate axially inwardly of said pin and effect clamping upon rotation about said pin.
According to another aspect of the invention in a scraper conveyor the invention comprises the combination of:
a. pins projecting outwardly from one side of the conveyor,
each pin having a diametric bore therein;
b. an attachment plate having apertures through which said pins extend;
c. a disc element received by eachof said pins on a side of said plate remote from the conveyor;
d. a locking rod extending through said diametric bores in said pins on faces of said disc elements remote from said plate; and
e. wedge surfaces on said faces of said disc elements adapted to urge said plate inwardly of said pins upon rotation of said disc elements.
A spacer piece can be provided to define one or more chain passages at the side of the conveyor, said spacer piece having a continuation forming one of said pins.
Each disc element preferably has two symmetrically-arranged helical wedge surfaces.
An extension can be provided on the periphery of each disc element and during assembly partial rotation of the element can be effected by hitting the extension with a hammer.
The attachment plate can have two' apertures each adapted to receive a pin, one disc element being provided for each pin and the locking rod being adapted to pass through aligned diametric bores in the pins.
In contrast to the prior art the attachment plate is most unlikely to work loose since the weight of the plate tends to act on the disc elements so as to constantly retighten them.
BRIEF, DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS A constructional embodiment of the present invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a device made in accordance with the present invention attached to a barrier plate of a conveyor;
FIG. 2 is a plan view of a disc element of the device shown in FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a sectional side view of the disc element shown in FIG. 2; and
FIG. 4 is an end view of the disc, element shown in FIG. 2.
DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring initially to FIG. 1, a barrier plate 13 is attached to the stowage side of a conveyor (not shown). The plate 13 has an upper flange 14 bent in the direction of the stowage zone. A chain passage 16 is formed between the upper flange 14 and an angle piece 15. A pin 2 is. attached to the angle piece 15, as by welding, and the pin 2 projects towards the stowage zone. A spacer piece 12 is disposed below the angle piece 15 to form two further chain passages l0, 11. The spacer piece 12 is formed with a further pin 2' extending parallel to the pin 2.
An attachment plate 4 serves to cover the chain passages 10 and 11 and has apertures for receiving the pins 2 2'. The pins 2, 2' are provided with diametric bores. 1 through which an L- shaped rod 3 is passed.
A disc element 6 is disposedbetween the rod 3 and the attachment plate 4 and is received on each of the pins 2, 2'. As
shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, each disc element 6 has two wedge surfaces 8 and 8', on one radial face Y and these surfaces 8, 8 are helical, i.e. analogous to a screw thread. Each element 6 has an extension 9 projecting from the periphery thereof. The extension 9 serves to transmit hammer blows to the element 6 to effect rotation thereof.
The operation of assembling the device is as follows. initially the attachment plate 4 is mounted on the pins 2, 2' and then thedisc elements 6 are mounted on the pins 2, 2 in such a way that the rod 3 can be inserted'in the aligned bores 1 without difficulty. Each element 6 is then partially rotated by hitting its extension 9 with a hammer, so that the wedge surfaces 8, 8' engage the rod 3 and displace the plate 4 in the directionof arrow 5 to thereby lock the plate 4 in position. A reverse rotation will serve to allow detachment of the device.
We claim:
1. An attachment device for scraper chain conveyors said device comprising:
a. a plate having at least one aperture therein adapted to receive a pin projecting outwardly from a side of a scraper chain conveyor;
b. a disc element adapted to receive said pin and lie adjacent an outerface of said plate;
0. a locking rod adapted to pass through a diametric bore in said pin on the side of said disc element remote from said plate; and
d. at least one wedge surface on a face of the disc element adjacent said locking rod adapted to urge the plate axially inwardly of said pin and effect clamping upon rotation about said pin.
2. In a scraper chain conveyor the combination of:
a. pins projecting outwardly from one side of the conveyor,
each pin having a diametric bore therein;
b. an attachment plate having apertures through which said pins extend;
c. a disc element received by each of said pins on a side of said plate remote from the conveyor;
d. a locking rod extending through said diametric bores in said pins on faces of said disc elements remote from said plate; and
e. wedge surfaces on said faces of said disc elements adapted to urge said plate inwardly of said pins upon rotation of said disc elements.
3. A device according to claim 1, wherein the disc element is provided with two wedge surfaces arranged symmetrically of one another.
4. A device according to claim 3, wherein the wedge surfaces are helical.
5. A device according to claim 1, wherein the disc element has an extension projecting outwardly from its peripheral surface.
6. Adevice according to claim 1, wherein the attachment plate has two apertures each adapted to receive a pin, one disc element being provided for each pin, and the locking rod being adapted to pass through aligned diametric bores in the

Claims (9)

1. An attachment device for scraper chain conveyors said device comprising: a. a plate having at least one aperture therein adapted to receive a pin projecting outwardly from a side of a scraper chain conveyor; b. a disc element adapted to receive said pin and lie adjacent an outerface of said plate; c. a locking rod adapted to pass through a diametric bore in said pin on the side of said disc element remote from said plate; and d. at least one wedge surface on a face of the disc element adjacent said locking rod adapted to urge the plate axially inwardly of said pin and effect clamping upon rotation about said pin.
2. In a scraper chain conveyor the combination of: a. pins projecting outwardly from one side of the conveyor, each pin haVing a diametric bore therein; b. an attachment plate having apertures through which said pins extend; c. a disc element received by each of said pins on a side of said plate remote from the conveyor; d. a locking rod extending through said diametric bores in said pins on faces of said disc elements remote from said plate; and e. wedge surfaces on said faces of said disc elements adapted to urge said plate inwardly of said pins upon rotation of said disc elements.
3. A device according to claim 1, wherein the disc element is provided with two wedge surfaces arranged symmetrically of one another.
4. A device according to claim 3, wherein the wedge surfaces are helical.
5. A device according to claim 1, wherein the disc element has an extension projecting outwardly from its peripheral surface.
6. A device according to claim 1, wherein the attachment plate has two apertures each adapted to receive a pin, one disc element being provided for each pin, and the locking rod being adapted to pass through aligned diametric bores in the pins.
7. The combination of claim 2, wherein each disc element has two symmetrically-arranged helical wedge surfaces.
8. The combination of claim 2, wherein each disc element has an extension projecting outwardly from its peripheral surface.
9. The combination of claim 2, wherein a spacer piece is provided to define one or more chain passages at the side of the conveyor, said spacer piece having a continuation forming one of said pins.
