Abstract

A projectile shooting device having an elastic receiver with an open mouth connected to a ring, the ring being connected to a hollow handle closed at one end and open at the other end with the handle connected at its open end to the ring. A mechanism for releasing projectiles one at a time, which are stored in the hollow handle, into the elastic receiver for shooting by drawing back the receiver together with a projectile and releasing the same.

through ELASTIC TYPE PROJECTILE PROJECTING DEVICE SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The invention relates to a shooting device of the character having an elastic receiver member having a generally bulbous formation having an open mouth in which is positioned a projectile. The open mouth end of the receiver is secured to a ring, and the ring is secured to an elongated hollow handle open at the end adjacent the ring. The configuration of the elastic receiver includes a wasp waist formation spaced from the open end, the waist portion terminating in a bulbous end which has a diameter greater than the waist portion and substantially equal to the mouth opening. With the waist portion and the bulbous end the receiver has less tendency to go the ring when stretched into shooting position and released. i
The hollow handle provides a magazine for storing projectiles and has a release mechanism adjacent the open end for ejecting projectiles one at a time into the elastic receiver to be shot by holding the handle and stretching and releasing the receiver and projectile therein.
These and other more detailed and specific objects will b disclosed in the course of the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which;
FIG. 1 is a side elevational view of a shooting device with repeater magazine with the elastic receiver shown in extended firing position in broken lines.
FIG. 2 is a front elevational view of the device.
FIG. 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of FIG. 2 with a projectile in position for dispensing from the magazine.
FIG. 4 is a view similar to FIG. 3 with the. projectile dispensed from the magazine into the elastic receiver.
FIG. 5 is a view identical to FIG. 4 but with a further projectile in line for dispensing into the elastic receiver.
FIG. 6 is an enlarged detailed view on the line 6-6 of FIG. 3.
FIG. 7 is a perspective view of the release rod of the release mechanism, the rod removed from the device.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the shooting device A includes the handle 10 formed with the chamber 13 extending longitudinally of the interior thereof and open at the upper outer end. The hollow handle 10 forms a magazine for holding a number of projectiles P. The rear upper end of the handle 10 is rigidly connected to a ring 12 formed of wire stock by means of the short connector piece 14, the ring 12 disposed in a plane parallel to the longitudinal axis of the handle 10. Further provided is the elastic receiver 16 which is constructed of thin elastic material such as rubber or the like. The bottom of the receiver as at 17 is thickened to allow more effective grasping of a projectile therein and reducing wear at that area. The receiver I6 is generally bulbous in formation with the flared open mouth end 18 which is connected at the mouth to the ring 12. The mouth end 18 terminates inwardly in the reduced or wasp waist portion 20 which in turn terminates in the bulbous outer end portion 22. The diameter of the waist portion 20 is less than the diameter'of the open mouth end 18 and less than the major diameter of the end portion 22.
The handle 10 further includes the projectile releasing mechanism M. The mechanism M includes the lower inner retainer rod end portion 24which extends upwardly through the lower hole 26 formed in the wall of the handle. The inner end portion 24 terminates at its inner end in the bight 28 which terminates in the main rod portion 30. The upper end of the main rod portion 30 terminates in the end portion 32 which has formed therein the notch 34. The end portion 32 terminates in the right angularly disposed upper inner retainer rod end portion 36 which is parallel to and spaced from the main rod portion 30. The lower inner rod portion 24 together with the bight 28 and the main rod portion form a U-rhaped lower retainer portion 37. The main rod portion 30 together with the end portion 32 and the upper inner rod portion 36 form an inverted upper retainer portion 39, the main rod portion 30 being common to both the retainer portion 37 and the retainer portion 39.
The wall of the handle 10 is formed with the spaced aligned bearing holes 38 and 40 through which the main rod portion 30 slidably extends. The wall of the handle 10 is also formed with the upper hole 42 through which the upper inner retainer end portion slidably extends. The holes 26 and 42 are aligned on the same longitudinal axis of the handle 10. The lengths of the lower inner rod portion 24 and the upper inner rod portion 36 are such that when the inner end of the portion 36 is upon the inner surface of the wallof the hollow handle the inner end of the lower rod portion 24 is substantially flush with the inner surface of the hollow handle as in FIGS. 3, 5 and 6.
It will be noted that when the rod portion 36 is within the handle and against the handle wall as a stop the rod portion 24 is without the handle to allow a projectile to come to the rod 36. When the button 46 is depressed the rod portion 36 is removed from the inside of the handle thereby allowing the projectile to fall from the handle. The rod portion 24 maintains the remaining projectiles in the hollow handle FIGS. 4 and 5).
The mechanism M is normally urged into and held in the position of FIGS. 3, 5 and 6 by means of the elastic band 44 positioned around the handle and in the notch 34 of the end portion 32. Secured to the bight 28 is the button 46.
The shooting device A is operated as follows. The chamber 12 is filled with projectiles P by holding the open end upwardly and pushing the button 46 inwardly against the urging of the member 44 to the position of FIG. 4 whereby a projectile P can be positioned in the handle against the rod portion 24. The button 46 is then released whereby the rod portion 24 is moved to the position of FIG. 5 thereby allowing the projectile to pass into the handle and the projectile retained in the handle by means of the inner rod portion 36 being moved into the position of FIG. 5. Such a manipulation may be repeated to load the hollow handle magazine 10. Loading may also be accomplished by removing the friction fit removable plug 48 at the outer end of the handle.
To release a projectile into the receiver 16 the handle 10 is held in the attitude shown in FIGS. 3, 4 and 5. Let it be assumed that the mechanism M is as in FIGS. 3 and 5. The button 46 is depressed to the position of FIG. 4 whereby the projectile positioned against innerrod portion 36 is released due to the movement ofthe portion 36 from the position of FIG. 5 to that of FIG. 4. The releasedprojectile Pfalls into the elastic receiver 16. The receiver .I6 is. then grasped at the end together'with the projectile P therein, stretched to the position of FIG. 1 and then released whereby the projectile is shot from the receiver outwardly of the ring 12. Due to the reduced waist portion 20 and the enlarged portion 22 of the receiver 16 the portion 22 tends to not go through the ring 12 and thereby reverse itself as is the case in shooting devices having an elastic projectile member.
I claim:
I. A shooting device with a repeater magazine comprising:
a. a ring;
b. an elastic receiver having a closed end and an open end,
said open end connected to said ring;
c. a hollow projectile storage handle closed at one end and an open projectile discharge end at the other end; said handle connected at its open end to said ring with the open end closely adjacent and spaced from the ring and having a centerline engaging the centerline axis of the receiver; and
e. means for releasing projectiles stored in said hollow handle one at a time into said elastic receiver for shooting by drawing back said receiver together with a projectile and releasing the same.
2. The device of claim I in which:
a. said release means includes opposed upper and lower inner retainer portions; and
b. means on said lower retainer portion for extending said upper and lower retainer portions alternately into and from the interior of said hollow handle for release of projectiles one at a time from said handle.
3. The device of claim 2 in which:
a. the closed end of said receiver is bulbous; and
b. a waist portion of the receiver intermediate the open end and the closed end has a diameter of a dimension less than that of said open end and less than the greatest diameter of the closed bulbous end.
4. The device of claim 1 in which:
a. said releasing means includes a main portion terminating at one end in a lower inner retainer portion spaced therefrom and at the other end in an upper inner retainer portion spaced from said main portion;
b. said handle having a lower hole formed therein and an upper hole formed therein; and
c. means slidably mounting said main portion of said releasing means on said handle with said lower inner retainer portion slidably extendable into said handle through said lower hole of said handle and with said upper inner retainer portion slidably extendable through said upper hole into said handle, the lengths of said lower inner retainer portion being spaced rearwardly from said upper inner retainer portion at least the diameter of one projectile such that when one of said portions is extended into the handle to obstruct the flow of a projectile the other is withdrawn from the handle and permits only one projectile to escape.
5. The device of claim 4 in which the longitudinal axis of the handle intersects the centerline axis of the ring and the.
receiver portion at a right angle.
6. The device of claim Sin which:
a. the closed end of said receiver is bulbous; and
b. a waist portion of the receiver intermediate the open end and the closed end has a diameter of a dimension less than that of said open end and less than'the greatest diameter of the closed bulbous end.
7. A shooting device comprising:
a. a ring;
b. a handle connected at one end to said ring with the iongitudinal axis of the handle intersecting the centerline axis of the ring at a right angle;
c. an elastic receiver having a bulbous closed end and an open end, said open end connected to said ring; and
d. said receiver having a waist portion intermediate the open end and the bulbous closed end, said waist portion having a minimum diameter of a dimension less than the diameter of the open end and less than the greatest diameter of the bulbous closed end, thus causing the receiver to have less tendency to go through the ring when stretched into shooting position and released.

Claims (7)

1. A shooting device with a repeater magazine comprising: a. a ring; b. an elastic receiver having a closed end and an open end, said open end connected to said ring; c. a hollow projectile storage handle closed at one end and an open projectile discharge end at the other end; d. said handle connected at its open end to said ring with the open end closely adjacent and spaced from the ring and having a centerline engaging the centerline axis of the receiver; and e. means for releasing projectiles stored in said hollow handle one at a time into said elastic receiver for shooting by drawing back said receiver together with a projectile and releasing the same.
2. The device of claim 1 in which: a. said release means includes opposed upper and lower inner retainer portions; and b. means on said lower retainer portion for extending said upper and lower retainer portions alternately into and from the interior of said hollow handle for release of projectiles one at a time from said handle.
3. The device of claim 2 in which: a. the closed end of said receiver is bulbous; and b. a waist portion of the receiver intermediate the open end and the closed end has a diameter of a dimension less than that of said open end and less than the greatest diameter of the closed bulbous end.
4. The device of claim 1 in which: a. said releasing means includes a main portion terminating at one end in a lower inner retainer portion spaced therefrom and at the other end in an upper inner retainer portion spaced from said main portion; b. said handle having a lower hole formed therein and an upper hole formed therein; and c. means slidably mounting said main portion of said releasing means on said handle with said lower inner retainer portion slidably extendable into said handle through said lower hole of said handle and with said upper inner retainer portion slidably extendable through said upper hole into said handle, the lengths of said lower inner retainer portion being spaced rearwardly from said upper inner retainer portion at least the diameter of one projectile such that when one of said portions is extended into the handle to obstruct the flow of a projectile the other is withdrawn from the handle and permits only one projectile to escape.
5. The device of claim 4 in which the longitudinal axis of the handle intersects the centerline axis of the ring and the receiver portion at a right angle.
6. The device of claim 5 in which: a. the closed end of said receiver is bulbous; and b. a waist portion of the receiver intermediate the open end and the closed end has a diameter of a dimension less than that of said open end and less than the greatest diameter of the closed bulbous end.
7. A shooting device comprising: a. a ring; b. a handle connected at one end to said ring with the longitudinal axis of the handle intersecting the centerline axis of the ring at a right angle; c. an elastic receiver having a bulbous closed end and an open end, said open end connected to said ring; and d. said receiver having a waist portion intermediate the open end and the bulbous closed end, said waist portion having a minimum diameter of a dimension less than the diameter of the open end and less than the greatest diameter of the bulbous closed end, thus causing the receiver to have less tendency to go through the ring when stretched into shooting position and released.
