DIAPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 355,368, dated January 4, 1887.
Application filed March 20, 1886.
To a whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ll/IARIA E. ALLEN, of
.the city of Brooklyn, county of Kings,and
State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Diaper or InfantsBreeeh-Cloth, of which the following specification is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to infants breechcloths; and it consists in a combination .of various materials for that purpose, as herein-. after described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure I represents a diaper as applied to an infant. Fig. II shows a top view of the diaper in an unfolded state. Fig. III represents a section of part of a diaper on an enlarged scale.
This diaper consists of a layer of cotton wadding, a, above asheet of paper, b, the latter being covered by a fine gauze material. The different materials are stitched together near the edges 8. (See Fig. II.) To give free circulation of air the paper b is perforated.
This diaper, which is of the usual triangu- Serial No. 195,976. (No model.)
lar shape, is applied on the infant in the usual manner by passing one corner between the limbs upward and the-two other corners of the diaper around the body until they meet the first corner, where all the corners are secured together. The usual diaper at present generally used is then put outside this improved diaper in the usual manner.
This improved diaper is for the purpose that when it becomes soiled it may be thrown away and replaced by a clean one. Thus the outside diaper is kept clean, and may be used for some length of time before requiring to be washed.
I claim as my invention As a new article of manufacture, a ventilating-diaper consisting of a combination of 40 cotton wadding, perforated paper, and gauze,
substantially as specified.
