NITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CURTIS HAVEN, OF CAMDEN, NEW' JERSEY.
PAPER-HOLDING ATTACHMENT FOR TYPE-WRITING AND OTHER MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 355,264, dated December 28, 1886.
Application filed January 12, 1886. Serial No. 188,301.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, CURTIS HAVEN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Camden, State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Paper-Holding Attachments for lype-\Vriting and other Machines, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a front view of an attachment embodying my invention, the same being partly broken away. Fig. 2 represents a top view thereof, partly broken away. Fig. 3 represents a vertical section thereof."
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
My invention consists of an attachment for type-writing or other machines for feeding or holding paper, the same being adjustable so as to be adapted to be fitted to machines of different sizes.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a rod or roller, which is provided with journals or gudgeons B. 0 represents the support for said roller, the same consisting of two bars, D, from the outer ends whereof rise the ears E, which are formed with or secured to said bars in any suitable manner. The inner ends of the bars overlap each other in the direction of their length, having cut-away or recessed adjacent faces at the portions adapted to be brought in contact, so that the thickness of the overlapping portions is uniform with that of the remaining horizontal portions of the bars. The bars are also formed with longitudinally-extending slots F, in which is fitted a screw, G, which by means of a nut, H, is adapted to clamp the bars to each other. Depending from the bars are pins J, which are adapted to enter the sockets or openings K, formed in No model.)
a typewriting or other machine, whereby the attachment is held in proper position on said machine, the paper to be fed to the machine being placed on the roller A.
It will be seen that the attachment is adj ustable in length or width in the direction of the travel of the carriage of the machine to which it is applied, so that it may be prop erly sustained on the sockets K or other sustaining devices employed, said adjustment being accomplished by loosening the screw G, and then moving the bars D inwardly or outwardly until the proper width or length is obtained, after which the screw is tightened, thus holding the parts in their adjusted position, thejournals ofthe roller being sufficiently long to be held in the ears E approximately to the full width or length to which the bars may be extended. The roller may also be removed, when required to replenish the same with paper, by loosening the screw and moving the bars outwardly until the journals of the roller clear the ears E.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An adjustable paper-holder for a type-writing machine, 850., consisting of a shaft, A, having a roller thereon, the angular bars D, furnishing bearings in the vertical limbs for said shaft A, and having the inner overlapping ends recessed and provided with slots wherein are secured fastening devices, substantially as 7 described, and the pins J, secured to said bars,
all of said parts being combined and arranged substantially as described.
CURTIS 'HAVEN.
