ADJUSTABLE LAMP-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 354,962, dated December 28, 1886. :pplication filed January 29, 1886. Serial No. 190,240. (No model.)
To LLZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES O. YALE, of Rome, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Lamp- Hangers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to an adjustable lamphangcr; and it consistsin the mechanism hereinafter pointed out and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a sideview of my improved hanger, showing the clamp-slide in position to either raise or lower the lamp. Fig. 2 is a side View of the same, showing the clamp-slide in position when the lamp is held stationary. Fig. 3 is a detailed section view.
In the accompanying drawings similar letters of reference refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views.
By the use of my improved hanger the lamp can be lowered or elevated, and when so adjusted the same is held stationary by means of the mechanism hereinafter referred to.
In the accompanying drawings, (t represents a lamp-harp constructed upon my improved plan, provided at the bottom with suitable lamp-seat a. At the upper end of the harp I provide asuitable hook or other device for connecting the supporting-cable for suspending the harp and lamp.
0!. represents the hook by means of which the cable is attached to the lamp-harp. A suitable loop, a maybe provided for supporting smoke-bell a.
The essential features of my invention consist in the means for moving the lamp up or down and holding the same stationary in any desired position. I attain this end by means of a cable attached to the lamp-harp, which passes over an anti-friction roll held in the ceiling, one end of the cable held to a clamping device, one end of which engages the cable, as hereinafter more fully explained.

To overcome this'tendency and to steady the clampinglever horizontally, as shown in Fig. 1, I provide cord 0, attached to the long arm of the lever, by means of which the position of the lever during the adjustment of the lamp and harp is at all times kept under the control of the operator.

tilting lever with perforated head through which the cable passes and to which the same is attached on the opposite side of the fixed support, the opening in the head constructed to engage or release the cable when the lever is tilted, with a cord attached to the long arm of the lever, arranged substantially as described, for the purposes stated.
