UNITED STATES lPATENT OFFICE.
. JOSEPH LINDLE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
REFRIGERATOR. l
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 354,916, dated December 28., 1886. v Application filed July 12,1886. serial Na 207,742. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern,.-
Beit known that I, JOSEPH LTNDLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ice-Boxes and Refrigerators, of which the following is a specication.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section of the refrigerator or ice-box with the parts in place. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the Water and filtering chambers, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a modification of the same.
A is the Water-chamber, B the lter-cham ber, and C the filtered-Water chamber.
My invention is intended to be an improvement on Letters 'Patent No. 240,523, of April 26,1881, No. 320,483, of June 23, 1885, and No. 320,484, of June 23, 1885, issued to me for improvements in Water-coolers and refrigerators, and is the result of practical experience in the manufacture and operation of my several inventions.
In making a refrigerator containing my present improvements I make, preferably at one end of the same, a water-chamber ofany suitable metal or material, and immediately under the same a filtering-chamber to be filled with charcoal or other suitable filtering material. I prefer to have these chambers extend across the end of the refrigerator, as shown in the drawings. I then make a third chamber to contain the filtered water after it has percolated through the charcoal and is ready for use. This third chamber may be placed immediately in, front of the filteringchamber, as shown in Fig. l, or it may be immediately under the filtering-chamber, as shown in Fig. 2, or it may be under the filtering-chamber and extend out Wholly or partially across the bottom of the refrigerator, asv
put under the iilteringchamber, or under and extending out partially or Wholly across the bottom of the ice-box, the chamber marked v terial may be inserted, and by means of which it may be renewed or repacked from time to time, as necessary. I. have shown this hole or l door in the top ofthe filtering-chamber; but of course it may be located in any other convenient position. The water-chamber is provided With holes or perforations, which convey the Water vinto the filtering-chamber, 'and 6o the filtering-chamber is also provided with holes or perforations, to carry the Water from the filtering-chamber into the filteredwater chamber. From this chamberit may be drawn off for use in any convenient manner.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' 1. In a refrigerator, a water-chamber, a filtering-chamber provided with a hole or opening through which access may be had to its 7o interior, and a filtered-water chamber immediately in front of the filter-chamber, all of such chambers communicating with each other, substantially as described.
2. In a refrigerator, a water-chamber, a ltering-chamber provided with a hole or opening through whichaccess may be had to its interior, and a filtered-water chamber immediately under the lter-chamber, all of such chambers communicating with each other, substantially as described.
3. In a refrigerator, a water-chamber, a liltering-chamberprovided with ahole or opening through which access may be had to its interior, and a filtered-water ,chamber under and extending out wholly or partially across the ice-space, all of such chambers communieating with each other, substantially as described.
