POURING TIP wmr BREATHER FIN BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION '1 Field of the Invention This invention relates to tubular pouring devices such as pipettes, oil can spouts and various nozzles through which liquids are directed into test tubes oil reservoirs, bottles, containers and the like. i
2. Description of the Prior Art Prior devices have comprised tubular members of various sizes and lengths through which liquids are directed and which tubular members frequently fill a substantial portion of the receiving orifice so that the fluid directed there through into the receiving orifice fills the remainder of the orifice and results in blockage of the air venting passage way necessary in order to prevent overflow and spillage of the liquid. This invention eliminates such breather passageway blocking as it specifically provides a breather passage way along either side of a spacing fin formed on the pouring tip and registerable in the receiving orifice.
SUMMARY or THE INYENTION A pouring tip usable in connection with a pipette an oil can spoutor any other nozzle through which fluids are directed into various receptacles or orifices having a longitudinally extending fin forming a spacing means for the pouring tip to provide breather passageways along either side of the fin and thereby insure against mechanical and fluid blockage of the necessary air passageway to permit the reception of fluid from the pouring tip without overflow or spillage.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENT In its simplest form the pouring tip comprising this invention consists of an expendable tubular plastic member 10,-a portion of which 11 is preferably frustoconical and provided with a longitudinally extending fin 12 along one of its outer sides formed by pinching together wall portions along one side of the tubular member inwardly on one side thereof to provide the fin l2 and at the same time the reduced end portion 11. The fin 12 is rigidified and maintained in its proper configuration by a plurality of laterally extending welds 17 such as heat welds or the like. The pouring tip is circularin cross section at its one end 13 and its other end, the base of the frustoconical portion 11 is of smaller diameter and indicated in the drawings by the numeral 14. The pouring tip may be applied to any fluid conducting tube 15 as seenin FIG. 2 of the drawings.
By referring now to FIG. 2 of the drawings, the pouring tip of the invention will be seen to be partially engaged in the open upper end of a test tube 16 and it will be observed that the longitudinal extending fin 12 is partially engaged within the open upper end of the test tube 16 so that air passage ways i are formed along either side thereof.
By referring now to FIG. 3 of the drawings which is an en-' larged cross section on line 3-3 of FIG. 2, it will be seen that the air passageways which may be termed breather openings are formed along side the pouring tip so that air in the test tube 16 may flow outwardly when fluid is directed through the pouring tip and into the test tube 16 thus preventing bubbling or blocking which would occur if the longitudinal fin 12 was not present.
Those skilled in the art will observe that when the pouring tip is used on a pipette through which chemicals are being handled it will prevent the bubbling and spilling of the chemicals which would otherwise occur when the air passageway out of the test tube 16 was blocked. Thus, the pouring tip provides for the accurate placement of the desired quantity of liquid in the test tube or other receptacle and prevents the spillage or bubbling above referred to.
It will occur to those skilled in the art that oil can spouts can be readily provided with a pouring tip either integrally with the spout or as an addition thereto and that the problem of directing several drops of oil into a small oil reservoir is overcome in that the oil flows into the reservoir and the air which is otherwise frequently trapped and results in bubbling and overflow escapes along side the longitudinal fin 12 of the pouring tip.
Various other fluid nozzles can be so equipped within the scope of the invention disclosed herein.
Although but one embodiment of the present invention has been illustrated and described, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims. Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
Iclaim:
l. A pouring tip with breather fin for pouring liquids from one tubular member into another tubular member, comprising an elongated tubular pouring tip; one end of said pouring tip being cylindrical for ready insertion of a tubular member thereinto and removal therefrom, the other end of said tubular member having wall portions pinched together along one side thereof to define a reduced end portion having a straight side and a tapered side and an integral elongate breather fin on said tapered side extending substantially the length of said taper to form a breather passage when said tapered end is inserted into a tubular member to prevent air blockage and spillage of a liquid being poured from one tubular member through said pouring tip into another tubular member.
2. A pouring tip as in claim 1, wherein a plurality of laterally extending welds are in said wall portions along their length to rigidify said fin and to aid in maintaining said fin in its pinched-togetherconfiguration.
3. The pouring tip set forth in claim 1 and wherein the tubular member if is formed of inexpensive lightweight expendable plastic material.
