A/E/V/VE 7W 4. WAY/Q0 PADDED KNEE BOARDS This invention relates generallyto cement finishers tools.
A principal object of the present invention is to provide a pair of boards for use by cement finishers, and upon which the cement finisher may kneel while working upon cement, the boards having self-contained means to provide a greater comfort to the worker.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a pair of boards for a cement finisher which includes a relatively thick pad secured upon a metal panel, thus giving a finisher, who generally spends approximately 90 percent of his time upon his knees, a greater comfort.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a pair of boards for a cement finisher which eliminates the necessity of straps such as are used on conventional cement finishers boards and which are known to bind the legs and cause them to become raw from chaffing.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a pair of boards for a cement finisher which includes an upward extending areuate handle which may be held between the workmans knees or feet in order to move about.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a pair of padded knee boards for a cement finisher which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will become readily evident upon a study of the following specification together with the accompanied drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the present invention;
FIG. 2 isa cross-sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of FIG.
1; FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the present invention shown in operative use.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral represents one of a pair of padded knee boards, according to the present invention, wherein there is a base plate 11 having a foam rubber pad 12 secured to the upper side thereof.
The base plate 11 comprises a generally rectangular panel made of lightweight, durable metal such as cast aluminum of magnesium and which is rust proof. The base plate 11 includes an upwardly extending lip 13 upon all four sides thereof which overlaps the edges 14 of the foam rubber pad 12. It will be noted that the lip 13 is of generally areuate configuration and having an upper edge which is parallel and flush with the upper side of the foam rubber pad.
It is to be noted that a preferred dimension for the base plate is suggested to be approximately 15 inches in width by 24 inches in length.
An areuate configurated handle 15 is transversely mounted across a center portion of the padded knee board, the handle 15 having opposite ends 16 which are secured to the upper side of the arcuate lips 13. The handle is preferably made from aluminum tubing or the like.
It will be noted that the foam rubber pad 12 may be secured to the base plate 11 by means of a suitable adhesive.
In operative use, as shown in FIG. 3 of the drawing, a cement finisher 17 employs two padded knee boards 10, the cement finisher placing his knees upon one of the boards and his feet upon the other of the padded knee boards. The cement finishers knees 18 are comfortably rested upon the foam rubber pad with the handle 15 placed between the knees. The feet 19 likewise rest upon the foam rubber pad for maximum comfort, the feet likewise being placed adjacent each side of the handle 15. In this position, the cement finisher may work in comfort without having any binding straps around his knees such as are used in conventional finishers boards. When the cement finisher wishes to change his position, the upstanding handle may serve for being grasped and moved over.
Thus there has been shown a pair of padded knee boards which offer a great comfort to cement finishers than is possible with conventionally used boards.
Iclaim: 1. In a pair of knee boards for a cement finisher, the combination of a pair of members, each one of said members comprising an individual board, each of said boards comprising a rectangular element having cushioning means thereupon for providing comfort for said cement finisher, each of said boards having a transverse extending handle for being removably readily adjusted from one position to another during operative use, said board members each comprising a rectangular base plate, said base plate having a form rubber pad placed thereupon, said transverse extending handle extending upwardly for being positioned between said cement finisher's knees or said cement finishers feet, said base plate further comprising a rectangular metal panel of lightweight material, said panel having an upwardly extending lip around the periphery thereof, said upwardly extending lip being inwardly curved so to define a angle and form a pocket around the edge of said base plate into which the edges of said foam rubber pad may be fitted, said form rubber pad comprising a rectangular member having an upper surface which is flush with the upper edges of said curved lips, said handle comprising an upwardly extending, areuate member which is secured at its opposite ends to the upper side of said curved lips upon opposite sides of said base plate, said handle being made from tubular aluminum.
