ABSTRACT: A cosmetic jar including a cosmetic containing member and a screw-on cap both of which are generally circular in outline, the cap having a projecting rim at its top and the cosmetic containing member having a projecting rim oflarger diameter at its bottom, the cosmetic jars being easily stacked in a stable arrangement. The cap has a double or bifurcated annular rib forming two spaced lines of contact with respect to a shoulder on the cosmetic containing member insuring an improved seal.

IIIIIIIIIIIII COSMETIC JArt SUMMARY or THE INVENTION This invention provides an improved stackable cosmetic jar for stackingin stable columns, and at the same time the jars are especially efficient for the storage and digital extraction of cosmetics, having a very attractive appearance. Each jar comprises a lower cosmetic container which has a double wall,

being hollow between an outer wall including a bottom member, said outer wall being integral with an inner wall forming the cosmetic containing portion which is semispherical at its bottom for easy extraction of cosmetics, the junction of the inner wall and the outer wall providing a single rim extending upwardly and having an exterior thread. This thread is for the reception of a separate closure cap having a mating interior thread on a rim thereof, this cap rim having a two-part edge which sets down on the shoulder abovereferred to when the threads are mated and the parts relatively rotated to secure the cover cap to the container. This forms a particularly efficient closure together with a seal or gasket mounted within the rim of the cover cap. I

The cover cap is provided with an upstanding peripheral rim having a diameter just less than the diameter of a downwardly extending rim on the bottom portion of the cosmetic container so that the jar is stackable in a very stable manner.

PREFERREDEMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION Referring now to FIG. 1, there are shown two complete cosmetic jars according to the present invention. Each one of these jars comprises a lower container portion for the cosmetics and a screw-on type closure cap 12. Each cap is provided with a central depression 14 in its top portion which is defined by an upstanding circular rim 16. in stacking, each rim 16 is received withina slightly larger circular depending rim 18 one within the other and therefore the cosmetic jars with closure caps in place may be stacked to a considerable height while still maintaining a stable relationship.

From FIG. 2 it will be seen that the closure cap 12 is generally hollow, the central depression 14 having a floor 20 within rim 16, and the side wall thereof extends downwardly in a truncated conical relationship terminating in a pair of

22 and 24 that have free coplaner edges.

The interiorwall of the closure cap is provided with an interior thread 26 located below an inverted shoulder'28 which is also annular and receivesand positions a seal or gasket 30 of any suitable material.

Now referring to FIG. 3, the container portion of the jar comprises an outer wall generally indicated at 32 and an inner integral wall34. The latter has a hemispherical bottom as clearly shown and is spaced from the outer wall 32. These walls merge in an annular shoulder 36. The outer wall 32 also merges into a circular bottom member having a depressed floor 40 defined by a downwardly extending circular rim 38.

From the shoulder 36 which forms a junction between the outer wall 32 and the inner wall 34, there is an upwardly extending circular flange 42 having an exterior thread 44 to mate with the thread 26 for the purpose of closing the container. I

22 and 24 come down firmly in contact with the shoulder 36, see FIG. 4, and the flange 42 has an upper-free edge which comes in contact with the diaphragm or washer 30 in the area of the shoulders 28 as also clearly shown in H6. 4,

so that a pod solid closure is provided which does not allow excess 0 air to enter the container. The edge of rim [6 is abutted by the peripheral area of floor 40, when the closed jars are stacked, at the interior of rim 38, and a stable stack of closed jars can thus be made, the respective rims acting as guides and positioning means for this purpose.

We claim:

l. A stackable cosmetics jar comprising a lower cosmetic container and an upper closure cap, interengaging means securing the same together in closed relation, the container including in its bottom area a downwardly extending annular rim which has a predetermined interior diameter;

the closure cap including an upwardly. extending annular rim thereon having a diameter slightly different from that of the rim on the container, so that the rims interfit in stacking relationship oflike jars;

a downwardly extending sidewall on the closure cap, said wall having a coplanaredge, a corresponding shoulder on the container, and means to secure the cap to the container with the edge of the wall of the closure cap in engagement with said shoulder;

wherein the cosmetic container comprises a pair of walls including an outer wall and an inner wall, said walls being spaced, a portion of the outer wall forming the bottom of the jar, the inner wall depending within the outer wall for containing the extending upwardly cosmetic, said walls joining in a flat shoulder, said inner wall extending upwardly therefrom forming a flange having an external thread thereon; and

said closure cap including a downwardly extending wall with a thread thereon to mesh with the aforesaid thread on said flange, said wall having an edge to seat on the flat shoulder, the edge of the closure cap wall having a pair of spaced free edges in a common plane.
