The invention relates to a device for introducing material into a rotary enclosure, and applies more particularly to rotary kilns such as cement kilns. p
In cement-manufacturing installations, the dust deposited in various places, in the gaskets or in the dedusters, is recovered and reintroduced into the kiln by means of a device generally comprising a set of scoops, which rotate with the kiln and pick up the dust accumulating at the bottom of a fixed cover surrounding the kiln. It may also be necessary to introduce air or various gases into some parts of the kiln.
The rotation of the kiln and its deformation make it difficult to provide a satisfactory seal between this cover and the kiln. A seal is essential, however, if, for example, pneumatic means is used for supplying material to the cover. n the other hand, the kiln is depressurised, and the entry of air must be restricted, sometimes by providingthe members for introducing material with valves. These valves do not operate reliably in the dust.
The invention'overcomes these disadvantages and relates to a device for introducing material into a rotary enclosure in which the members for introducing material do not comprise movable members, and in which the cover can follow the deformations of the enclosure while keeping the enclosure tightly sealed.
According to the invention, the cover surrounding the enopen towards the enclosure and resting on the enclosure by way of a plurality of rollers which are pivotably mounted on the two sidewalls of the chute and run along two corresponding circular tracks provided on the enclosure, the sidewalls being connected to the enclosure by a sliding gasket and the cover being prevented from turning during rotation of the enclosure.
The invention will now be described with reference to a particular embodiment, given by way of example only and illustrated in the drawings.
FIG. 1 is a cross section through the device embodying the invention, along a line [-1 in FIG. 2; and
FIG. 2 is a partial section along a linelI-Il in FIG. 1.
The kiln comprises a'cylindrical enclosure 1 with a refractory lining 2. Two pipes 3 form cylindrical passages through the enclosure 1 and lining 2. Two tubes 4 of refractory steel, attached by flanges to the pipes 3, lead through these pipes and end inside the enclosure 1, tangentially. relative to the surface of the lining 2. On the outside they are extended by scoops 5.
The assembly is contained in a cover 6, comprising an annular chute formed as a box by two sidewalls 7 and a periphery 8, While the scoops rotate, they pass a short distance from the periphery 8.
Rollers 9 are pivotably mounted on reinforcements 10 of the sidewalls 7. They run along two circular tracks 11 .pro-' vided on the enclosure 1.
Two resilient annular gaskets I2 are attached to the inner edges of the two sidewalls 7. 0n the side facing the interior of the box, each gasket bears on a corresponding rib 13 on the enclosure 1.
The cover 6 is is joined to the base by a connecting member 14, which keeps it stationary whilethe enclosure rotates.
The rims and flanges of the rollers 9 are lubricated by graphite sticks 15.
The dust collected in the installation is brought by an endless-screw conveyor l8 through a supply orifice 19 for the cover. It is picked up by the scoops 5 and introduced into the kiln through the tubes 4 while the kiln rotates.
The cover also contains a discharge aperture 20 and tube cleaning orifice 21 situated at a tangent to the enclosure. A bar can be inserted through an aperture 22 in each scoop in order to clean the tubes, which are brought opposite the orifice 21 one after the other.
The floating arrangement of the cover enables the cover to follow every deformation of the enclosure. Since the kiln is depressurised relative to the exterior, the gaskets I2 always ensurea good seal Obviously, the invention IS not restricted by the details of the embodiment just described, which can be modified without exceeding the scope of the invention.
In particular, the cover could be supplied by a pneumatic conveyor. Also, although the device has been described with reference to the introduction of powdery material into a kiln, it could also be used for introducing any other material, for example airor various gases. In this case, the inlet tubes could be equipped with valves. Alternatively, of course, the device couldbe used for extracting gases from the enclosure instead of introducing them. Lastly, in the particular embodiment the gasket bears on the rim in the direction of the box interior because the kiln is generally depressurised, but if the pressure in the box weregreater than the external pressure this arrangement could of course be reversed.
I claim:
1. A device for introducing material into a rotary enclosure,
comprising a cover surrounding the enclosure and containing the material, a plurality of members for introducing the material contained in the cover into the enclosure, said cover including a chute surrounding and open towards and resting on the enclosure, a plurality of rollers between said cover and the enclosure pivotably' mounted on two sidewalls of said chute and running in two corresponding circular tracks on the enclosure, a seal between said sidewalls and the enclosure including a sliding gasket and means for preventing the cover from turning during rotation of the enclosure.
2. A device for introducing material as claimed in claim 1, said members for introducing the material into the enclosure being scoops disposed about the periphery of the enclosure.
3. A device for introducing material as claimed in claim 2, each scoop being attached to the end of a tube extending into the enclosure.
4. A device for introducing material as claimed in claim 3, the tubes extending into the enclosure being substantially tangential to the internal surface of the lining of the enclosure.
5. A device for introducing material as claimed in claim I, the sliding gasket comprising, for each wall of said cover, a ring of flexible material attached to the'wall and bearing on an annular element attached to the enclosure.
6. A device for introducing material as claimed in claim 1, said cover being supplied with material by a screw conveyor.
