SYSTEM AND CONTROL MECHANISM FOR CONVEYANCFS OF COMBUSTIBLE GAS The present invention relates to an apparatus for the control of pipes which carry combustible gas.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a new apparatus for the control of pipes which carry combustible gas,
which is applicable to all kinds of cookers and ovens for city over the pilot flame,'the action of this object produces a I change in the pilot flame, or when placing some other element which deforms or orients the flame, the same flame directly or indirectly heats a thermostat, which acting on a valve, opens the feed pipe of the combustible gas, allowing the gas to reach the lighter, which is lighted by the action of the same pilot or another.
With these and other objects in view, which will become apparent in the following detailed description, the present invention will be clearly understood in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 is an axial elevation of an apparatus for the control of pipes which carry combustible gas designed in accordance with the present invention; and
FIG. 2 is a view of the apparatus of FIG. 1 when an object is placed on the pilot light.
Referring now to the drawing, and more particularly to FIG. 1, the apparatus for the control of pipes which carry combustible gas comprises a pipe 3 by which when a key channel (not shown) is opened, gas is conducted by means of the pipe 3, towards a pilot tube 4, of which the end 1 may be lighted by means of a match thus causing the flame to remain lighted. A cylinder 12 closed at both ends is disposed in communication at the bottom 13 with the gas pipe 3 and the pilot tube 4, through which bottom 13 of the cylinder 12 the gas continuously transverse in passing from the gas pipe 3 into the pilot tube 4. An annular downwardly turned portion 14 divides the cylinder 12 into the top 15 and bottom 13 of the cylinder and defines a central opening 16. A valve 8 is positioned in the bottom 13 of the cylinder 12 and is spring biased against partition 14 by helical spring 6 thereby closing the central opening 16 (FIG. 1). The spring 6 is positioned about a bottom projection 17 of the same diameter as the bottom part 18 of the valve 8.
A pipe 11 communicates with the top 15 of the cylinder 12 and with a base conduit of a lighter 7. A thermostat 2 is positioned in the top of the cylinder 12 between the upper closed end 19 thereof, the latter constituting an extension of the thermostat, and the valve 8. A rod 9 connects the bottom of the thermostat 2 with the valve 8, An exterior projection 10 of the closed end 19 is formed with an opening 21 through which the lighted end 1 of the pilot extends.
When the unit is not being used, the pilot light 1 passes vertically upwardly through the opening 21, and the apparatus remains in the position as illustrated in FIG. 1, whereupon the valve 8 seals the opening 16, and consequently, the lighter 7 from communication with the gas pipe 3.
Referring now again to the drawing, and more particularly to FIG. 2, when an object 20, such as, for example, a saucepan, frying pan, or the like, is placed on the pilot flame, the lighted flame l deflects heating the exterior projection 10 of the thermostat 2, causing the latter by effect of heat to expand axially, pushing the rod 9 downwardly and with it the valve 8 against the effect of the spring 6, thereby opening the opening 16. Gas from the pipe 3 can now pass therethrough into the pipe 11 towards the lighter 7. The same pilot flame 1 also causes the lighting of the gas which passes through the head of the lighter.
Upon removing the object, namely the saucepan, frying pan or the like, the pilot flame returns to its original shape and orientation (FIG. 1), causing the thermostat 2 to become cold of the gas returning to its original position, and thereby closing the valve 8 against the partition 14. This closes the passage of the gas through opening 16 which feeds the lighter 7. However, the pilot continues lighted, thus being able to produce the cycle previously explained upon subsequent positioning of an object over the pilot light 1.
While I have disclosed one embodiment of the present invention, it is to be understood that this embodiment is given by example only and not in a limiting sense.
Iclaim:
1. An apparatus for the control of combustible gas, comprising:
a gas supply pipe;
a lighter having outlets operatively connected with said gas pp y P p a pilot flame;
a thermosensitive means operatively disposed responsive to predetermined deflections of the operative condition of said pilot flame; and
means operatively connected to said thermosensitive means for opening and closing, respectively, communication of said lighter with said gas supply pipe upon said predetermined deflections of said pilot flame.
2. The apparatus, as set forth in claim 1, wherein:
said pilot flame is operatively adjacent said outlets of said lighter; and
one of said predetermined deflections of said pilot flame occuring when an object is placed on said lighter and on said pilot flame, causing the latter to come into deflected contact with said object.

The apparatus, as set forth in claim 2, wherein said means operatively connected to said thermosensitive means opens communication of said lighter with said gas supply pipe when said object is placed on said pilot flame and for closing communication therebetween in the absence of an object thereon.
4. The apparatus, as set forth in claim 1, wherein said thermosensitive means is a thermostat.
5. The apparatus, as set forth in claim 2, wherein said lighter and said gas supply pipe are in communication when said object is placed on said pilot flame, the latter further serving to ignite the gas passing through said outlets of said lighter.
6. The apparatus, as set forth in claim 5, further comprising:
a closed member including a formation defining a valve opening dividing said member into a bottom portion and an upper portion communicating through said valve opening;
said bottom portion of said member in communication with said gas supply pipe and said pilot flame, respectively;
said upper portion of said member in communication with said lighter;
said thermosensitive means comprises a thermostat mounted in said upper portion at the top thereof;
a valve disposed in said bottom portion adjacent said valve opening operatively connected to said thermostat;
a spring disposed in said bottom portion biasing said valve into closing position with said valve opening;
said top of said upper portion constituting an operative heat transmitting part and extending and including a pilot flame opening through which said pilot flame burns in the normal undeflected condition; and
said pilot flame being deflected against said heat transmitting part upon placing of said object on said pilot flame thereby causing said thermostat to expand and move said valve away from said valve opening.
7. The apparatus, as set forth in claim 1, wherein:
said pilot flame is operatively adjacent said outlets of said lighter;
a conduit member connected between said gas supply pipe and said lighter;
said means operatively connected to said thermosensitive means includes a valve disposed in said conduit member;
said valve opening in response to said thermosensitive means upon a deflected oriented condition of said pilot supply pipe when said pilot flame is burning in a normal oriented condition; and
said thermosensitive element effecting the termination of the closing of said valve.
