Any pressure build up resulting acts over the entire door area, and tends to resist the final closing. A similar effect results in the initial opening movement of the door, since the door tends to pull a vacuum. In vehicle doors where the doors are from 6 to 10 inches. thick, the compression resulting from closing a door, with all windows closed, tends to prevent the door from closing beyond the secondary strike, and provides an uncomfortable pressure on the ear drums. d The present invention is directed to relieving the pressure which such doors tend to develop. The invention is further directed to'relief of pressure as it is developed so' that resistance to door closing or opening is obviated. .The invention is further directed to an assembly which may be readily installed in any door and which mayinclude two way relief.

Referring'to FIGS. 1 and 2 there'is shown a door 20 in which has been bored a circular aperture 22. Disposed in the aperture is a valve plate 24 having a disk portion 26 provided with semicircular or D shaped openings 28 and 30. The disk portion mayhave a flange or rim 32 which will nicely fit the bore 22. A double ended stud 34 affixed to the diametral divider 36' between the apertures 28 and 30 is of sufficient length to receive like louvre members 38, each of which is provided with a circular centering flange 40, an annular seat 42, and a plurality of louvres 44. The louvre members and the valve plate are securely held in position by suitable cap nuts 46.
The valve plate is preferably provided with hinged flap valves 48 and 50 each of which are alike and provided with is rolled over edge 52notched to receive complimentary hinge members 54 affixed to the divider 36, there being provided a hinge pintle 56. Each of the valves is provided with a coil spring or springs 58 adapted to urge the valve to a closed position and located adjacent a hinge member 54 the coils being disposed about the pintle 56 and the ends bearing against the valve and divider 36 as shown.
The rim 60 of each valve is provided with a circular flange 62 within which is seated an arcuate gasket 6.4 adapted to uniformly seat upon the rim of its respective aperture, and to dampen any noise which might otherwise be generated by operation of the valves.

FIG. 2, the valve is shown in open position as would occur in initial opening movement of a door, as in the direction of arrow B, the movement tending to create a slight vacuum causing air to flow as indicated by the arrows D to relieve such vacuum.
While a single form of the invention has been illustrated and described, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited thereto. As various changes in the construction and arrangement may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention, as will be apparent to those skilled in the art, reference will be had to the appended claims for a definition of the limits of the invention.
