CI. 42-87 1 Claim ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A cartridge holder having an elongated unitary base member of resilient plastic material and a plurality of circular recesses formed in one side thereof, said recesses being formed in a straight line. Each of the recesses is adapted to receive and seat the flanged butt end of a cartridge. The recesses extend into and below the surface of the base member. A resilient flange extends around each of the recesses and forms a lip to grip the flanged end of the cartridge seated in the recess. Each flange extends above the surface of the base member, and adjacent flanges are disposed so as to touch each other to form a center section along the base member of greater thickness than the rest of the base member. Flexing of the base member about a transverse axis 'aids in inserting and removing cartridges in and from the recesses. An integral tab is formed at one end of the base member. The tab is provided with an-aperture therethrough to receive a display peg to suspend the holder from such end.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to holders for rifle or pistol cartridges, and more particularly, to such holders suitable for sales display and convenient and safe storage.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a simple inexpensive cartridge holder that will be readily adapted attractively to display cartridges at the point of sale.
A further object of the present invention is to provide such a cartridge holder that will also function safely to store cartridges A still further object is to provide a holder that will securely hold cartridges and prevent them from hanging against themselves and other objects when they are in the pocket of a user.
A still further object of the present invention is to provide a holder from which the cartridges can be easily removed and which holder can be used over and over again.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The cartridge holder of the present invention comprises an elongated unitary base member of resilient plastic material. A plurality of circular recesses are formed in one side thereof, the recesses being formed in a straight line along the axis of the holder. Each of the recesses is adapted to receive and seat the flanged butt end of a cartridge. The recesses extend into and below the surface of the base member. A resilient flange extends around each of the recesses and forms a lip to grip the flanged end of the cartridge seated in the recess. The flanges extend above the surface of the base member.
Adjacent flanges are disposed so as to touch each other to form a center section along the base member of greater thickness than the rest of the base member. Flexiug of the base member about a transverse axis aids in inserting and removing cartridges in and from the recesses.
An integral tab is formed at one end of the base member and is provided with an aperture therethrough to ted States Patent receive a display peg from which the holder can be suspended.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a side elevatiaonal view of the cartridge holder of the present invention with cartridges seated in each of the recesses therein.
FIG. 2 is a plan view of the cartridge holder of FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of FIG. 2.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring to the drawings, the cartridge holder 10 of the present invention comprises an integral or unitary molded or cast strip of flexible and resilient plastic material forming a base member 11 in which a plurality of sockets or circular recesses 12 are formed in one side and in a straight line along the longitudinal axis thereof. Each of the recesses 12 is adapted to receive and seat the flanged butt end 13 of a cartridge 14.
Recesses 12 extend into and below the surface 15 of member 11. A resilient flange 16 surrounds each of recesses 12 and forms a lip 17 to grip the flanged end 13 of the cartridge seated in the recess. The plastic from which holder 10 is made is sufliciently resilient, and the flanges 16 surrounding recesses 12 are sufficiently thin that the ends 13 of the cartridges are easily inserted and withdrawn, yet the cartridges are held securely in position.
Each flange 16 extends above surface 15, thereby to hold each cartridge 14 perpendicular to surface 15. Adjacent flanges 16 are disposed so as to touch each other as at 18, thereby to form a center section 20- along the axis of member 11 of greater thickness than is the rest of the base member.
Since cartridge holder 10 is elongated and recesses 12 extend in a straight line, member 11 is flexed relatively easily about a transverse axis thereto. This flexing aids in inserting and removing cartridges in and from recesses 12. Cartridges 14 thus can be quickly removed, and the holder can be used over and over again. An integral tab 22 is formed at one end of member 11 and is provided with an aperture 24 therethrough to receive a display peg (not shown).
Holder 10 with the cartridges 14 in position can then be hung from the peg for display purposes in retail stores. Holder 10 is sufficiently small and compact to fit easily into a pocket, thereby to hold cartridges 14 safely and securely and to enable them to be more easily handled.
It will be apparent that each size of cartridge requires an appropriately sized holder, and that the holders may be of any desired length.
1 claim:
1. A cartridge holder comprising an elongated unitary base member of resilient plastic material;
a plurality of closed circular recesses formed in one side of said base member, said recesses being formed in a straight line with their centers disposed along the longitudinal axis of said base member, the axis of said closed circular recesses intersecting and being perpendicular to said longitudinal axis of said base member, each of said recesses being adapted to receive and seat the flanged butt end of a cartridge, said recesses extending into and below the surface of said one side of said base member;
a resilient flange extending around each of said recesses and forming a lip to grip said flanged end of said cartridge seated in said recess said flanges extending above said surface on said one side of said ter section being of greater thickness than the rest of said base member,
said base member being readily flexed about a transverse axis thereto to aid in inserting and removing cartridges from said recesses; and
an integral tab formed at one end of said base member,
said tab being provided with an aperture therethrough, said aperture being adapted to receive a display peg to suspend said holder from said one end thereof.
