J. H. SWAGER &.J. P. FERCHEN.
WATER HEATER.
No. 352,896. 'Paten ted'Nov. 16, 1886.
INVENTOR UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. SWAGERAND JACOB F. FEROHEN, OF ASTORIA, OREGON.
.t WATER-HEATER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 352,896, dated November 16, 1886.
Application filed December 19, 1885. Serial No. 186,200. No model.)
To. all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, J OHN H. SWAGER and Moon F. FEROHEN, of Astoria, in the county of Clatsop and State of Oregon,.have invented a new and Improved Water-Heater, of which faucets, as will be hereinafter explained, and
specifically pointed out inthe claims. 7
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional elevation of our improved heater, and Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view of the same, taken on line as x of Fig. 1.
The apparatus illustrated in the drawings above referred to consists of an outer annular chamber, A, formed from two concentricallyarranged leaves of sheet metal, the upper and lower edges of which are united to form an air and water tight annular chamber, the inner chamber, B, being formed in substantially the same way, and connected to the outer chamber by a neck,'0. The inner chamber, however, does not extend as far down as theouter one, the idea being to so construct the heater that it may be fitted upon the coupling-flange D to the ordinary form of range and stove.
This heater is connected to a water-supply tank, E, by an inductionpipe, F, and an eduction-pipe, G, the pipe F being provided with a petcock, H, located at the lowest-point of the pipe F, so that in cold weather the water may be turned off from the tank and heater, while-the pipe G is provided with a three-way faucet,'I, each of the pipes being provided with astop-cock, asJ J,which stop-cocks arelocated close to the tank E. The stove-pipe proper is fittedupon an upwardly-projecting flange, K, which extends from the section A, and is provided with the usual form. of damper, L, and also with an opening, M, which is closed by a slide or door, the-idea being to permit parties using the heater to get at the inner chamber without removing the apparatus from the stove.
In operation the water takes the course indicated by the arrows, so that it will be readily understood thatimmediately after the lighting of the fire hot water maybe drawn from the faucet I. I g
This heater does notinterfere with the draft of the stove to which it is attached, requires no extra fuel, and does not in the least interfere with the ordinary culinary operations.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a water-heater, the combination, with the chamber A and the annular chamber B, connected by a neck, 0, of the pipes F and G, tank E, and faucet I, substantially as described.
2. In a water-heater, the combination, with chamber A and the annular chamber B, connected by the neck 0, of the pipe G, having faucet I and stop-cock J, the pipe F, having cocks H and J, and tank E, substantially as described.
