SAFETY NECK-YOKE ATTACHIVI ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 352,364, dated November 9, 1886.

To all whom t may concern/.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE F. SHULN- BURG, of Madison, in the county of Madison and State of Nebraska, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in-Safety Attachments for Vehicle-Tongues, Vof which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speciiication, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my irnproved attachment, showing it disconnected from the tongue and showing it connected to two collars, the latter being shown in detal' yoke in case of descending a hill when a brealrage takes place.
My invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the outer end 'of a tongue provided with the ordinary thimble or sleeve, B, having the stop C. Back of this thimble or sleeve is secured my improved safety attachment, of which D represents a strap suitably stitched or fastened together to form a loop, E, that fits around the tongue, as shown,and which is held from movement on the tongue by astaple or other suitable attachment, F. To the outer ends of the strap are secured rings or eyelets G,to receive straps H. that connect the strap D to the collars I or other suitable part of the harness.
I have shownA the straps H provided with snaps J, engaging the rings G, at which place the team is disconnected from the pole, and with buckles L at their upper ends, by which they are secured and adjusted upon the collars.
It will thus be seen that in case of a breakage of a neck-yoke or vof a holdback-strap, or in case the tugs should become unfastened or broken, the tongue will still be held in its position between the horses and will not be allowed to drop to the ground, thus avoiding the danger of serious accidents,' which frequent] y occur through these mishaps. Y
In case the vehicle is descending a hill when a breakage takes place, my safety attachment acts temporarily as a neck-yoke, as will be understood.
I claim as my invention- 1. In a safety attachment, the combination of the tongue, strap secured to the tongue, and connectionl for securing the strap to the harness upon the animals, substantially as set forth.
2. In combination with the tongue, the strap provided with a loop'tting over the tongue, staple securing the strap to the tongue, rings on the strap, and straps for connecting the tongue-strap to the harness on the animal, substantially as shown and described.
