DISH-BASIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 352,250, dated November 9, 1886.

To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL LUMBERT, of Oentreville, in the county of Barnstable and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new anduseful Improvement in Dish-Basins, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in Which Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved dish-basiu, and Fig. 2 is.a perspective view of the draining-receptacle. Fig. 3 is a detail view in central section.
The present invention relates to improvements in the class of articles known as dishbasins, wherein, on one'side, at the top, I provide a segmental-shaped receptacle having a perforated bottom opening into the dish-basin to receive therein the dishes after being washed, and thus act as a drainer. At the forward end of this draining-receptacle a soap-receptacle is provided.
In theaccompanying drawings, A represents an ordinary dish-basin provided with theusual handles,B. On each side and rearwardly there from I provide a draining-receptacle, O, preferably segmental in form, with the outer side, D, at its lower edge contracted to such a size as to rest within the upper part of the basin A, or rabbeted at its lower edge, as shown in Fig. 2, for the same purpose, and inclining somewhat outwardly at about the same angle as the sides of the said pieces. The forward side, E, also inclines forwardly somewhat,and is secured at the ends F in any suitable mannor to the sides D of the said receptacle. The bottom G of this receptacle is designed to be provided with a series of openings, -H,therein, and may be formed of an independent piece and secured to the sides by means of upturned wings I; but I prefer to form the forward side, E, and the bottom G of one piece.
In order that the water from the dishes may be returned directly to the dish-basin, in addition to the openings H, designed for this purpose, the bottom is inclined upwardly somewhat toward the rear, and the segmental side of the bottom G, adjoining the side D, instead of being solderedtheretofls left open, as shown at g in Figs. 2 and 3, so that the water may pass through freely. The forward side, E, of this drainingreceptacle is provided with a small receptacle, 1, to receive therein the soap. 7 I am aware that heretofore a receptacle for washed dishes has been made in crescent shape and mounted on the edge of a basin, and also receptacles having trays with reticulated bottoms have been provided for sinks, on which trays the washed dishes are placed.
What I claim is The combination of the draining-receptacle O, segmental in shape, having inclined sides D, contracted at their lower ends, and front E, and perforated and inclined bottom'G, cutaway at g, with the dish-basin A, substantially as and for the purpose described.
