BRUSHING M ECHANISM FOR BoLT|NGRE|-:| s.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 352,228l dated November 9, 1886. Applicatc n filed March 12 1886i. Serial No. 195.617. (No model.)
tion of devices, hereinafter plainly described,
and having mainly for their object the more efficient cleansing of the reels.
My improvements are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l represents a longitudinal elevation of a centrifugal flour dressing machine, the doors of which have been removed to show the internal reel, and showing my improved devices applied thereto. 1 Fig. 2 represents a transverse Figs. 3 and 4 are side and end elevations, respectively, of the brush; Fig. 5,- details of a lever arrange nient for throwing the brush in or out of gear.
Similar letters refer to similar parts in all the figures of the drawings. y
The brush consists of a long cylinder of Wood, A, mounted upon a shaft, the ends of which rest in bearings B. The bristles or fibers of the brush O are fixed in longitudinal lines from end to end of thecylinder A,`and two or more of these lines of .bristles or fibers follow right and left hand spiral directions, and other rows of bristles, D, are fixed in straight lines along the brushcylinder.
At or near one or both ends of the brushcylinder are fixed rollers E, covered round their periphery with strips of elastic material.
The bearings B, in which the shaft of the revolving brush is carried, are fixed to the ends of hanging links F, which links are supported by j ointed brackets G from the to`p of the outer case, and the hanging links, together withthe brush they carry, can by this means be raised or lowered. Two or more projecting flanges are fixed around the circumference ofthe reel, said flanges forming lines parallel and concentric with the surface of the silk or gauzescreens, and serving the purpose of driving the covered rollers E, which can be lowered until they come in contact with the said iianges.
The revolution of the flanges (withthe reel) v imparts motion to the pulleys E, which press upon such flanges with the weight of the re- Vwith pulleys E E, adapted to bear or press on `and lowering the pulleys, consisting of the volving brush, assisted by the pressure of springs P, and the brush is thereby driven at a'high rate of speed, and .comes while revolv- 55 ing in contact with the Whole of the silk `or gauze sides of the reel, laccomm`odating itself by its automatic rise and fall to the anglesA of the reel. The brush revolving at a higher rate of speed thanthe silk-covered reel, a sweeping action is produced on the surface of the silk, and 'the' brush thereby cleanses or removesthe fine iiour from the meshes of the silk throughout the whole surface of the sides of the reel at every revolution of such reel, and thereby keeps open the interstices of the silk or gauze to facilitate the passage ofthe flour.
The brush is lowered into gear or raised out of gear by means ofthe vertical rods J, actu- 7o vated by the hand-lever K.
The silk orgauze covered sides of the reel are represented at- L, the outer case thereof at O, and the drum or pulley for driving the reel at M.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed,
l declare that what I claim isl. The combination, with a bolting-surface, of a revolving brush' having its bristles or fibers arranged on its cylinder in the manner described-namely, with a portion of them extending in practically longitudinal or straight lines from end to end, and with others arranged in right and left hand spiral lines, all substantially as shown and described.
2. ln combination with the reel provided with flanges, as set forth, a brush provided o said anges and to be driven thereby. 9 3. In combination with the reel, the pulley driven by contact therewith, the'revolving brush, and the means described for lraising 5 links F, rods J, and lever K. 9 4. In combination, the flanged reel, the revolving brush and its pulleys E E, the links F, rods J, lever K, and spring P, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
