SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 352,092, dated November 2, 1886,

To aZZ whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD JORDAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ottawa, in the county of La Salle and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sleigh-Runners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or-figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to sleigh-runners; and it consists in the construction and novel combination of parts, as hereinafter described,and pointed out in the claims. 7
The object of the invention is to provide a runner for a bob-sled, sleigh, cutter, or handsled, from T-iron, steel, or other metal, and in constructing the braces of flat metal and channel-iron or other metal'to give lightness and strength to the structure at the same time.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the sled-runner, which is made of T-iron, inverted and bent to the proper shape. The base of the runner A is provided withscrew' or bolt holes 13, at suitable intervals, and immediately over, each screw or bolt-hole B, the web G of the runner is-slotted, as at D, for the reception of the nuts E, which are turned on the points of the screws F, which secure the soles G to the run- 11ers. tersunk around their lower ends, to receive the screw-heads H, and thereby present a smooth surfaceiat the bottom of the sole.

the angular knee-braces J extend inwardly along the tie-beams L, and are secured to the lower edges of said tie-beams by screws or bolts M, passed up through the portions K into the tie-beams L. The tie-beams and the forward endof the runner are connected by a strip, N, secured to a rearwardly-extending flange, P, at the front end of the runner. A braces Q are secured at their lower ends by bolts Q to the webs of the runners, and the upper ends of these A-braces are secured between the knees I and the knee-braces J by bolts B. g
In some constructions, instead of connecting the knees and angular knee-braces rigidly to the under faces of the tie-beams L, I provide the knees and'knee-bracesat their up: per ends with a half-round tie-bar, S, which is bolted thereto, and projects at each end slightly beyond the horizontal portions of the knees and knee-braces. I further provide two box-bearings, T, which are flanged on theirupper sides to fit the under face of the tie -beam L, bolts U U being passed up through the box-bearings T and through the tie-beam, and secured in place by nuts V, screwed upon the slightly-projecting ends of said screw-bolts U U. In this construction only a single knee is used with each runner, and a single tie-beam only is required to connect them, and it allows either runner to osthe position of the opposite runner. a
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination, with the tie-beam and T-metal runner, of the channel knee and channel knee-brace, connected at their upper ends by the half-round bar having projecting ends,
