LELAND SMITH, OF OOXSACKIE, NEW YORK.
POULTRY DRINKING-FOUNTAIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 351,888, dated November 2, 18 86.
' Application filed August 17, 1886. Serial No. 211,118. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern;-
Be it known that I, LELAND SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Coxsackie, in the county of Greene, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Poultry Drinking-Fountains; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawsents a sectional perspective view of the improved drinking-fountain, A designates the water-tank of any suitable size or dimensions, and preferably of cylindrical form, and is provided with a funnelshaped mouth, a, or, other suitable means for filling said tank with water.
At the top of the tank A is the cover or closed top B, and the bottom 0 of the tank is provided with a central heating-chamber, D, having a tube, E, extending up centrally through the water-tank and through the cover or top B, said tube carrying off the smoke from a suitable heat-generating device or lamp, F. The heating-chamber D is formed tapering, its greatest diameter being at the top, thus giving a larger radiating-surface and enabling the heat to more readily impinge against the interior sides of the chamber and be retained passing up through the tube 'E.
The tank A is provided with a drinkingsmoke out through the tube E. The bottom of the water-tank is provided with feet I,which fit within the supporting-base H, therebyholding the tank in position thereon.
In summer, when the water is required to be kept cool, the lamp is not then used, and the chamber D and tube E serve to draw and keep up a continuous circulation of cool air centrally through the watertank. Thus, it will be seen, the water is kept cool in summer and prevented from freezing in the winter, and at the same time the water is retained clean and pure. When used in summer, the supporting-base F is dispensed with, the tank being supported above the surface of the ground solely by means of the legs I.
Having now fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A drinking-fountain for poultry, provided with a closed top and bottom, said bottom being provided with legs or supports, and a ta- 4 peringcentral heating-chamber extending up from the bottom and'having a tube extending centrally through the tank and cover thereon,
and a drinking-trough projecting from the side of the water tank and communicating therewith through an opening for feeding the water thereto, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim t-he above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence-
