PANTY GIRDLE HAVING MEANS TO ADJUSTABLY LIFT AND FLATTEN A SAGGING ABDOMEN Filed July 18, 1968 FIG.4
2 I N VEN TOR,
Harry Meyer;
ATTORNEY.-
United States Patent 3,513,854 PANTY GIRDLE HAVING MEANS TO ADJUST- ABLY LIFT AND FLATTEN A SAGGING ABDOMEN Harry Meyer, Milwaukee, Wis., assignor to Sil-O-Ette Sales Corp., Jamaica, N.Y., a corporation of New York Filed July 18, 1968, Ser. No. 745,881 Int. Cl. A41c 1/00 US. Cl. 1 28528 11 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to, and its principal object is to provide a panty girdle of novel and improved construction, affording means to adjustably lift and flatten a sagging abdomen, so the amount the abdomen is lifted and flattened, can be easily changed by the wearer to suit her comfort and attain a better contour and appearance of her body form.
Another object thereof, is to provide a novel and improved panty girdle of the character described, which is simple in construction, reasonable in cost to manufacture, easy to manipulate, and efficient in carrying out the purposes for which it is designed.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent as this disclosure proceeds.
For one practice of this invention, the inner surface of the front of the panty girdle is covered by a downwardly directed arrowhead-shaped panel which is stretchable only horizontally. This panel extends along waistline region, between the sides of the garment, and down to crotch region. Said panel is only stitched to the garments front along vertical centerline which coincides with the vertical center line of the garments front. Otherwise, the panel is free for movement. From each upper extremity of the panel, a flat elastic belt member extends through an adjacent opening in the side of the garment, and thence around the garments back, through guide loops between which they overlap and are engageably releasably associated by means offering adjustment of belt size. This may be accomplished by a set of hooks on one belt member, for selective engagement onto any one of spaced sets of eyes on the other belt member.
In the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
FIG. 1 is a front pictorial view of a panty girdle embodying the teachings of this invention, worn by a lady.
FIG. 2 is a rear view of FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 shows a preferred form of panel and its terminal belt members, on a diagrammatic showing of the inside surface of the front of the panty girdle.
FIG. 4 is a silhouette outline of a side view of a ladys body showing a sagged abdomen.
FIG. 5 is a similar view, showing the lady wearing the panty girdle of FIG. 1, which has lifted and flattened the abdomen.
3,513,854 Patented May 26, 1970 In the drawing, the numeral 15 designates generally a ladys panty girdle which is a pants-type undergarment worn on the bare body, extending from waistline downward and fashioned with relatively short trouser legs 16, covering the upper parts of the thighs 17 of the wearers body 18. The inner surface 19 of the front of the garment 15, is covered by a substantially isosceles triangularshaped pliable panel 20, which preferably is shaped like a downwardly directed arrow head whose vertical center line coincides with the vertical center line of the front of the garment, along which said panel 20 is stitched. Said entire line 30 may be such stitching, though the attachment of said panel at crotch region, its lower extremity,
would be sutficient for the practice of this invention.
Otherwise, except at where the attachment is effected, said panel is free for movement. From each upper vertex of said panel, a flat, longitudinally stretchable elastic member extends through an adjacent opening in the side of the garment, to serve as a belt part; such belt members being indicated by the numerals 21, 22, and the openings they are through, are the downward slits denoted as 23 and 24 respectively. Thence, said belt members pass through the respective loops 25, 26 on the back of the garment, where said members overlap and are engageable by means offering adjustment of belt size. This may be accomplished by a set of hooks 27 on one belt member, for selective engagement onto any one of spaced sets of eyes 28, 28', 28" on the other belt member. Said panel 20 is elastically stretchable only horizontally. When said members of the belt means and the panel are spread out flat, the upper edge of the unitary structure they comprise is preferably a shallow V-shape indicated by the obtuse angle A. The lower edge of the panel is a sharp V-shape, indicated by the acute angle B, whose vertex region is at the crotch region 31 of the garment 15.
In the nude, the contour of a sagged abdomen is indicated at 29. When the girdle taught herein is worn, the sagging abdomen is lifted and flattened so its contour is as indicated at 29', which substantially enhances body appearance; the extent of such transformation of shape being adjustable by changing belt size. The degree of control can be relaxed after a big meal, and increased to attain contours for special costumes. Instead of the hooks and eyes shown, belt size may be steplessly adjusted by use of belt buckles well known in dressmaking and tailoring. For panel use, the art well knows many one-way stretch fabric materials suitable therefor. The one I have used is batiste Lastex.
This invention is capable of numerous forms an various applications without departing from the essential features herein disclosed. It is therefore intended and desired that the embodiment shown herein be deemed merely illustrative and not restrictive and that the pat ent shall cover all patentable novelty herein set forth; referenc is being had to the following claims rather than to the specific showing and description herein, to indicate the scope of this invention.
I claim:
1. In combination with a panty girdle garment, a pliable panel of isosceles triangular shape general y, positioned inverted against the inside surface of the front of said garment, commencing downwardly between the sides of the garment to the crotch region of the garment, belt members extending from the upper vertices of said panel, adapted for releasable attachment at the back of the garment; the vertical center lines of said panel and the front of the garment, being coincident; said panel being attached to the front of the garment; such attachment being only at coincident points on their said center lines; said attachment being at least at the crotch region of the garment.
2. The combination as defined in claim 1, wherein the panel extends downwardly from substantially from the top of the garment.
3. The combination as defined in claim 1, wherein the panel is attached to the garment, substantially along its entire vertical center line.
4. The combination as defined in claim 1, wherein the garment is provided with openings at its sides; said belt members being through said openings and thence around the outer surface of the back of the garment.
5. The combination as defined in claim 1, wherein the panel is elastically stretchable only horizontally.
6. The combination as defined in claim 1, wherein the belt members are longitudinally elastically stretchable.
7. The combination as defined in claim 1, including cooperative releasable attachment means on the distal ends of the belt members.
8. The combination as defined in claim 7, wherein said attachment means are adjustable so the belt size is changeable.
9. The combination as defined in claim 1, wherein the panel is a downwardly-directed arrow head shape.
10. The combination as defined in claim 9, wherein the belt members are fiat and their upper edges are in continuation respectively of the upper edge of the panel.
11. The combination as defined in claim 1, wherein the garment is provided with openings at its sides; said belt members being through said openings and thence around the outer surface of the back of the garment; said panel being attached to the garment, substantially along its entire vertical center line and is elastically stretchable only horizontally; the belt members being flat and longitudinally elastically stretchable, and including cooperative releasable attachment means on the distal ends of the belt members; said attachment means being adjustable whereby the belt size is changeable.
