' BOX-FOR PHIOITOGRAPHIC USE Filed Oct. 23, 1967 F g fi so INVENTOR. ,LEE R. HICKEY United States Patent 3,508,484 BOX FOR PHOTOGRAPHIC USE Lee R. Hickey, 302 W. Williams St., Corunna, Mich. 48817 Filed Oct. 23, 1967, Ser. No. 677,134 Int. Cl. G03d 3/00 US. Cl. 95-100 6 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A box :for use with Polaroid black and white or color prints which permits the user after exposing the print either toffcoat it (if a black and white print) or to apply a backing to it (if a color print); in either case the print is wet and can be thereafter temporarily held in position in the box to dry.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION My box is provided with a rectangular base having an upwardly inclined top surface with a plurality of spaced apart elongated horizontal slots arranged in a vertically ascending array. First and second parallel vertical walls are secured to opposite sides of the base and extend upward therefrom. The inner surfaces of these walls carry a like plurality of horizontally separated vertical slots, each vertical slot being aligned with a corresponding end of a corresponding horizontal slot.
A third vertical wall extending at right angles to both the first and second walls is secured to a third side of the base and extends upwards between the first and second walls and;i n contact therewith.
An access door is hingedly secured to the fourth side of the base. The door has a closed position at which-it is verticallyidisposcd in contact with the first and second walls and; is parallel to the third wall. The door has an open position at which it extends horizontally away from the base.
In use, an exposed print is first placed on top of the door, which is then in the open position, for coating or to receive the backing. The wet print is then slid vertically downward into a corresponding set of vertical and horizontal slots to be held in position to dry. A plurality of wet prints can be stored in the various sets of slots to hold same out of contact with each other for drying together.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a perspective front-top view of my box; FIG. 2 is a perspective front-bottom view of my box; FIG. 3 is a side view of my box; and
FIG. 4 is a detail view of a portion of my box. 7
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring now to FIGS. 1-4, a bottom rectangular member 10 is upwardly inclined and is provided with a top surface having a plurality of spaced apart parallel horizontal elongated slots 12. The bottom surface carries an inverted clip 14 adapted to detachably receive a coater tube 16.
First and second vertical rectangular walls 18 and 20 3,508,484 Patented Apr. 28, 1970 are secured to opposite sides of member 10' adjacent the ends of the slots 12 (which are at different vertical levels and form a vertically ascending array). The inner surfaces of walls 18 and 20 each are provided with horizontally spaced vertical slots 22, each vertical slot being aligned with a corresponding end of a corresponding horizontal slot. A third vertical rectangular wall 24 is secured to a third side of member 10 and extends upward in a plane perpendicular to walls 18 and 20; walls 18, 20 and 24 enclose member 10 on three of its four sides.
An access door 26 is hinged at 28 to the bottom of walls 18 and 20. A cover or lid 30 extending at right angles to the door is secured to an edge thereof opposite the hinged edge.
The inner surface of door 26, which is corrugated as shown at 29 is provided with a spring clip 31.
A vertical pocket assembly 32 having a top mounted opening 34 and adapted to receive film packs and/or gummed backings is secured to the outer surface of wall 24.
One or more of walls 18 and 20 is provided with one or more rings 36 through which shoulder straps can extend for carrying.
Lid 30 carries a lift tab 38 for raising the hinged door up to unlock same after the door has been moved into vertical closed position with the lid enclosing the various walls at the top.
In use a print 40 can be held detachably in place on the inner surface of door by clip 30 for coating or receiving backing. The wet print or prints can then be stored in the slots as shown.
While I have described my invention with particular reference to the drawings, my protection is to be limited only by the terms of the claims which follow.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A box for use in coating or applying backing to photographic prints and subsequently detachably storing same in spaced apart relationship, said box comprising:
a rectangular base having an upwardly inclined top surface With a plurality of spaced apart elongated horizontal slots arranged in a vertically ascending array; first and second parallel vertical walls secured to opposite sides of the base, the surface of each wall adjacent the other Wall carrying a like plurality of horizontally separated vertical slots, each vertical slot being aligned with a corresponding end of a corresponding horizontal slot; third vertical wall extending at right angles to the first and second walls and secured thereto as well as to said base whereby the base is enclosed on three sides; and an access door hingedly secured to the fourth side of the base, said door having a closed position at which it is vertically disposed in contact with the first and second walls and is parallel to the third wall, said door having an open position at which it extends horizontally away from the base, and wherein said door has an inner surface upon which a print can be placed for coating, the inner surface carrying a spring clip for detachably holding a print in place. 2. A box as set forth in claim 1 wherein the side of the door remote from the base has a lid extending at right angles to the door, said lid, when the door is in the closed position, providing a detachable top cover.
3. A box as set forth in claim 1 further including a vertical film pack storage pocket secured to the outer surface of the third wall, said pocket also serving to store gurnmed backings for color prints.
4. A box as set forth in claim 1 wherein the bottom surface of the base is provided with means for detachably securing a coater tube in place.
5. A box as set forth in claim 2 further including a vertical film pack storage pocket secured to the outer surface of the third wall, said pocket also serving to store gum'med backings for color prints. 1 Y
6. A box as set forth in claim 5 wherein the bottom surface of the base is provided with means for detachably securing a coater tube in place.
