Description

APPARATUS FOR FORMING FLAT WEFT LOOPS FOR A NONWOVEN NETTING Original Filed Jan. 27, 1965 lnuen/or Hen 0-; Se!" z aga p By Attorneys United States Patent 0 rm. (:1. D02g 3/00,- D0411 3/08 US. Cl. 281 6 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to an apparatus for forming flat weft loops in the manufacture of nonwoven netting. A shaft carries on its axis at least two tubular members which extend radially outwardly from the shaft for rotation therewith. The yarn from each bobbin is guided through a separate one of said tubular members and, as the latter rotate, at least two flat weft loops are formed on guide bars which are spaced apart but located radially inwardly of the open ends of the tubular members.
The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for the manufacture of nonwoven netting.
Application Ser. No. 770,885 is a continuation of application Ser. No. 428,359, filed J an. 27, 1965, now abancloned.
In a known method and apparatus for the manufacture of nonwoven nettings as described in French Patent No. 1,208,968 and addition No. 79,765 thereto, a web of flattened loops parallel to the weft thread is produced by a rotating element, these loops being immediately after their formation enclosed between two webs of warp threads and attached to them. These nonwoven nettings may be used as reinforcements in stratified materials. The rotary element may be a tubular member, rotating on a hollow support shaft which serves as a feeder for the weft thread, and winds the latter into loops about a pair of spaced apart support arms.
According to the present invention, there is provided an apparatus for forming the flat weft loops for .a non woven netting such apparatus comprising a rotatable shaft with at least two bobbins mounted coaxially on the shaft, the shaft carrying at least two tubular bent members through each of which a thread may be passed, a pair of spaced apart stationary guide bars being positioned nearer to the axis of the shaft than the tubular bent members so that on rotation of the shaft and the members at least two series of flat weft loops are formed on the guide bars.
The apparatus of the invention is much superior to the known apparatus having a heavy rotating circular rim carrying two or more bobbins, because of the moving masses, rotating with considerable inertia and at considerable distance from the axis. In the present apparatus, the rotating masses are positioned in the axis itself and the inertia of the rotating members may be kept low.
In order that the invention may more readily be understood the following description is given of one example of apparatus according to the invention. Reference is made to the accompanying drawing in which the sole figure is a plan view of the apparatus.
Referring to the drawing, two bobbins 18 are positioned co-axially in two supports 19 mounted on cages 16. The two cages 16 form an axial frame attached to a rotating shaft 21, mounted, in a bearing 20, and in two bearings 4.
The cages 16 are each traversed by a bar 17 with a hole 17' in the centre. A thread 2 or 1 unwinds from each bobbin 18 and passes through the holes 17 of the two bars. Beyond the hole 17' in the bar 17 of the left hand cage the thread 2 passes through an orifice 24 in the lateral bar, follows this bar to the right hand cage, passes back through the bar at 25 and passes through an orifice 23 in the end bar at the front of the right hand cage.
On the other hand, the thread 1, unwinding from a bobbin in the right hand cage passes through the hole 17' in the bar 17, and then directly through an orifice 22 in the end bar of the right hand cage.
The shaft 21 is pierced by two longitudinal, symmetrical passages 26" and 27" with lateral openings 26 and 27 upstream and 26' and 27' downstream. The thread 1 passes through the passage 26" between the openings 26 and 26', and the thread 2 passes through the passage 27" between the openings 27 and 27.
The shaft 21, which is driven by means of a transmission pulley 3, carries two opposite arms 5 and 6 which carry tubular bent member 7 and 7' which guide the threads 1 and 2. The shaft also carries, beyond the arms 5 and 6, a beam 8, 8' which is held in the horizontal position by suitable means. The shaft 21 can rotate for this purpose in the hub 9 of the beam.
The beam 8, 8 is provided with two bent guide bars 11 and 11', the end portions of which converge. The beam also carries two symmetrical bobbins 13, 13 from which two edge threads 28 and 28 unwind and pass through the two guides 12, 12', symmetrically arranged on the beam 8, 8'.
The two bent bars guide the edge threads 28 and 28 towards a device consisting of a pair of rollers 14. The lower roller is directly underneath the upper roller and thus cannot be seen in the drawing.
A web of warp threads, not illustrated, is fed from above to the nip of the rollers 14, another web of warp threads, not illustrated, is fed from below to the nip of the rollers 14.
During rotation of the shaft 21 and of the members 7, 7 the threads 1 and 2 form fiat successive loops on the bars 11 and 11' and sliding over the converging end portions these loops fall onto the edge threads 28, 28' which carry them away between the two webs of warp threads and into the rollers where the two webs of warp threads are attached to the loops of the weft, so that when the assembly is dried a nonwoven, glue netting for reinforcing stratified articles is formed.
