To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J OHN H. ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Jones7 Valley, in the county of Hickman and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harrows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same,

reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my improved reversible harrow. Fig. 2is a longitudinal vertical sectional View of the same. Fig. 3 is a top view, and Fig. 4 is a bottom view.

My invention has relation to that class of part of this specification,

, harrows in which a number of teeth are secured to a beam, which is pivoted at its middle, and provided with means for adj ustingit at different angles to the draft-beam; and it consists in theimproved construction and combination of parts of the same, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, the letter A indicates the beam, tothe forward end of which the draft is attached. Inclincd handles B B are secured to the beam, and have a crosspiece, C, which connects them and passes through thle upper end of an upright, D, upon the rear end of the beam. A metallic strap, E, is secured to the under side of the beam, and the rear end of this strap is bent downward and rearward to form a perforated lip, F, between which and the under side of the beam the ltransverse barrow-beam Gis pivoted upon a bolt, H, passingthrough the lip, transverse harro w-beam, and the draft-beam,the lower end of the said bolt forming a tooth, I, similar in construction to the other teeth, J, of the harrow-beam. A semicircular bar, K, issecured at its ends to the ends of the harrow-beam, projecting forward and sliding under the beam in a recess, L, in the same between the'beam and the strap, and the forward central portion of this seniicircular bar is formed with a number of perforations, M, which registerwith a corresponding perforation, N, in the beamandin the strap. A bolt, O, is secured to the-forward treadle, S, by means of which the rear end of the lever may be depressed with the foot of the person guiding the harrow by the'handles.

It will be seen that when the treadle end of the lever is depressed the bolt will be raised and the semicircular bar may slide freely in its guide formed by the recess in the under side of thc beam and by the strap, allowing the beam to be tilted at any desired angle to the draft-beam, and when the barrow-beam has arrived to its desired angle the perforation registering with the perforation inA the beam will admit of the bolt being forced down by the flat spring. This will adapt the harrow to be used on hillsides and similar inclined ground, as the harrow will be capable ofl throwing the soil downhill when going in either direction, and the harrow will also be useful in cultivating between rows of plants, when it may be adjusted to throw the soil toward the y rows or from the rows, as desired.

`Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United Statesy 1. In a harrow, the combination of a draftbeam having handles, a barrow-beam pivoted at its middle under the rear portion of the draft-beam, and having a semicircular bar projecting forward and formed with perforations,

and a bolt tting in a perforation in the draftbeam registering with the perforations in the seinicircular bar, and having a spring for forcing. it down and a foot-lever for raising it,- as and for thepurpose shown and set forth.

In a harrow, the combination of a draftbeam, a barrow-beam pivotally secured thereto, and having a forwardlyprojecting.perforated seinicircular-bar, a spring secured at one I OOk end to Said draft-b'eam, and having a pin and my own I have hereunto affixed my Signature a. link secured to its free end, and a lever pivin presence of two Witnesses.
