Nov. 11, 1969 a. MULLER PAPER ROLL DISPENSER 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Filed 001;. 5, 1967 United States Patent 3,477,656 PAPER ROLL DISPENSER Bert Muller, 211 Vienna Drive, Santa Ana, Calif. 92703 Filed Oct. 5, 1967, Ser. No. 678,143 Int. Cl. 1365b 19/00 US. Cl. 242-55.2 3 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A paper roll dispenser comprising a support frame, a spindle extending from the frame and supporting a roll of paper, and a pressure arm, spring biased into engagement with the roll of paper to provide a tensioning effect thereto.
The present invention relates to a paper roll dispenser having means for supporting the roll and means for tensioning the paper on the roll.
One object of the present invention is to provide a paper roll dispenser including a spring-biased pressure arm which will bear against the paper on the roll to tension the paper and provide for breakage of the paper at any desired location.
Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby the pressure on the pressure arm can be adjusted.
Another object of the invention is to provide a paper roll dispenser in which the paper roll can be easily changed Without the likelihood of the breaking of fingernails.
Other features and advantages of the present invention will be apparent from the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing wherein FIGURE 1 is a left side view, looking at said dispenser attached to wall; FIGURE 2 is top view; FIGURE 3 is back view.
NOMENCLATURE 1-Spindle to hold paper roll 2-Roll of toilet tissue 3Pressure arm 4-Support frame 5-Tension spring 6-Wall 7-Back angle of pressure arm 8--Spring hooked on back angle of pressure arm 9-Adjustable screw on spring Ill-Channel for back angle of pressure arm and spring FIGURE 1 shows the paper roll dispenser including a spindle 1 which is attached to a support frame 4 and which extends from the frame at substantially a right angle thereto. The spindle 1 is adapted to support a roll of paper 2 thereon. A pressure arm 3 extends over the roll of paper 2. The pressure arm 3 includes a first portion which extends substantially at a right angle to the frame 4 and parallel to the spindle 1 from pressure engagement with the roll of paper 2 mounted on the spindle. The pressure arm also includes a second portion which extends 4 inch downwardly towards the roll of paper and at a right angle to the first portion of the pressure arm for the purpose of holding the roll on the spindle 1. The pressure arm further includes a third back angle portion 7 which extends substantially at a right angle to the first portion and parallel to the second portion. The second and third portions of the pressure arm 7 are spaced apart substantially the length of the spindle 1 by the first portion. The third back angle portion 7 of the pressure arm is made in a triangular shape and is slidably mounted in a triangularshaped channel 10 in the support frame 4. A coil tension spring 5 is attached at one end 8 to the third back angle portion of the pressure arm and at the other end to an adjustable screw 9 which is threaded into an opening in support frame 4. The biasing effect of the pressure arm 3 is adjustable by the screw 9 connected to the spring 5 by means of a screw driver inserted in a slot in the screw. The back angle of said pressure arm 3 moves up and down in said channel 10, giving it freedom of movement to allow said pressure arm 3 to be moved up for purpose of removing and replacing paper roll 2 and then lowered in position so that said pressure arm 3 comes to rest on said paper roll 2, thereby acting as a brake on said paper roll 2. The adjustable tension spring 5 is the part of this invention that is new, also the combination of adjustable tension spring 5 connected to pressure arm 3 for the purpose of acting as a brake on the paper roll 2. The paper roll 2 extends at right angles to the Wall, which allows the paper to be removed from either side of roll and expedites the speed and ease of changing paper roll.
I claim:
1. A paper roll dispenser comprising a support frame, a spindle attached to said frame and extending substantially at a right angle thereto, said spindle being adapted to support a roll of paper thereon, a pressure arm, means mounting said pressure arm on said frame for sliding movement relative thereto, said pressure arm having a first portion extending substantially at a right angle to said frame said parallel to said spindle for pressure engagement with the roll of paper, said pressure arm having a second portion extending substantially at a right tension to said first portion to axially hold said roll on said spindle, tension spring means attached at one end to said frame and at the other end to said pressure arm to normally bias said pressure arm into engagement with the roll of paper and provide a tensioning elfect thereto, said pressure arm being movable against the spring bias to permit roll removal and loading, and means on said frame for adjusting the tension in the spring means whereby the tensioning effect of the pressure arm on the paper roll can be adjusted.
2. A paper roll dispenser as in claim 1 wherein said pressure arm further includes a third portion extending at a right angle to said first portion and parallel to said second portion, said second and third portions being spaced apart substantially the length of said spindle by said first portion, said means mounting said pressure arm for sliding movement includes a channel member on said frame and said second portion of said arm being mounted in said channel member.
3. A paper roll dispenser as in claim 2 wherein said means for adjusting the tension in the spring means includes a threaded opening in said frame, and screw means attached to said one end of said spring means and threaded into said opening for movement relative thereto.
