GARBAGE DISPOSAL coNvEYoR Filed sept. 27. 196s IN V EN TOR.
Horace Luca s United States Patent O 3,472,384 GARBAGE DISPOSAL CONVEYOR Horace Lucas, Scottdale, Ga. (812 Bellevue St., Greensboro, N.C. 27406) Filed Sept. 27, 1966, Ser. No. 582,377 Int. Cl. B01d 43/00 U.S. Cl. 210-526 4 Claims ABSTRACT F THE DISCLOSURE A garbage disposal system in which there is an endless belt conveyor extending below the streets, with a series of spaced manholes into which garbage is dumped upon the conveyor belt. Fluids are carried away by pipes, and motor driven rollers move the conveyor belt along with the solid wastes to a dump. This system avoids need for garbage trucks in the city streets, and is unatfected by temperature and Weather changes.
This invention relates to conveyors, and more particularly a garbage disposal conveyor.
The main purpose of this invention is to provide a garbage disposal conveyor for removing garbage or other unwanted matter from houses and buildings and transporting it beneath the street level, the dumping cite or main incinerator by means of endless conveyor belt.
Another object of this invention is to provide a garbage disposal conveyor which is provided with a pair 'of elongated pipes in parallel relationship with the main for transporting liuids into the main outlet or dump.
Another object of this invention is to provide a garbage disposal conveyor which is unaffected by changes in weather, temperature and keeps the garbage trucks away from the citys streets.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a garbage disposal conveyor which is economical in use, relatively easy to install, is designed to save time and effort required to dispose garbage by conventional means, such as, garbage trucks, and provides maximum utility to the -users of this convenience.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein a satisfactory embodiment of the invention is shown. However, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the details disclosed but includes all such variations and modifications as fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawing:
FIGURE 1 is a sectional elevated side view of this invention.
FIGURE 2 is a sectional end view of this invention taken along the lines 2 2 of FIGURE 1.
According to this invention, a garbage disposal conveyor is provided with an endless conveyor belt 12 which is suitably supported on a plurality of uniformly spaced-apart conveyor rollers 16 for disposing and transporting the abandoned matter, such as, garbage within ya horizontal underground shaft 13. A plurality of inlets are suitably secured within the top layer 11 for directly disposing garbage from the cans (not shown) through inlets 15 onto the endless conveyor belt 12. As it is shown in FIGURE l in order to reduce the free fall impact on belt 12 the contents may be disposed through side openings 15 and slide through an angularly disposed shaft into the inlet 15.
It should be noted that on both sides of the endless conveyor belt 12 provisions are made for elongated guard plates 14 for preventing removal or falling otf of said contents from the moving conveyor belt 12. A power means, such as, an electric or gasoline driven motor 17 is operably communicating with at least one of rollers 16 for providing propulsion means to the endless convey'or belt 12 when said belt is in operation. Each roller 16 is supported by a pair of elongated side strips 18 and 1'9, which strips, in turn, are spaced-apart from each other and supported in a parallel relationship by a plurality of upwardly extending rods 20. It should be noted that each rod 20 is designed to rotatably support axis or shaft 20 extending outwardly from both sides of each roller 16.
This invention is also provided with a plurality of transversely extending pipes 22 which operably communicate With the bottom portion of the ground shaft 13 and terminate at horizontally disposed, elongated .tubes 21 which are designed to admit or drain the fluid substances found in shaft 13, especially between the bottom portion of endless conveyor belt 12 and the top portion of the bottom layer 23.
What I now claim is:
1. A garbage disposal conveyor comprising, in combination, top layer means, transport means positioned within a horizontally disposed shaft for moving the garbage into a dump, a plurality of angularly disposed ports within the top layer means for guiding the disposable contents onto said transport means, guard means on each side of said transport means for preventing the contents located on said transport means from falling off and disrupting the operation of said transport means, drainage means for removing fluid from the contents on said transport means, said drainage means including a plurality of laterally positioned openings extending downwardly on a slant angle from the bottom portion of said horizontally disposed shaft, a drainage pipe within each of said openings, and at least one elongated horizontally disposed tube positioned in a perpendicular relationship with each of said drainage pipes being adapted to dispose fluid admitted thereto from said drainage pipes, and power means for propelling said transport means.
2. The combination according to claim 1, wherein said transport means include a plurality of uniformly positioned conveyor rollers, a plurality of upwardly extending rods for supporting said rollers on a horizontal plane, and metallic strips connecting said rods to each other.
3. The combination according to claim 2', wherein an endless belt is superimposed on said rollers for providing carrying means when at least one of said rollers is rotated by said power means.
4. The combination according to claim 2, wherein said power means includes an electric motor directly secured to the center axis of one of said rollers of said transport means.
