Cl. 222-167 1 Claim ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention concerns a device for meting out and dosing pourable goods while rotary pipe means are employed as conveying means.
The present invention is characterized primarily in that the storage or feeding container which communicates with the rotary pipe means is pivotally supported for pivoting in a vertical plane so that the said container may occupy an inclined position during the feeding operation in which the axis of rotation of the container is inclined to the horizontal plane and may selectively occupy an inclined position or a vertical position when being charged. The rotary conveying means may selectively be rigidly connected to said container for pivotal movement therewith or may be connected to said container through the intervention of a flexible tubular member.
The present invention relates to a device for meting out and dosing pourable goods, especially cohesive and adhesive goods which flow with difliculties, while rotary pipes are employed as conveying elements.
When meting out and dosing pourable goods, especially cohesive and adhesive goods which flow with difilculties, a continuous discharge is not always assured with a stationary and rigid supply container. Under such circumstances, however, the employment of rotary feeding elements is made diflicult because such rotary feeding elements cannot carry out their function of conveying a precisely dosed quantity of goods.
In order to overcome this drawback in connection with the feeding of cohesive and adhesive goods from a stationary supply container, it has been suggested to mount oscillating means on the outside of such supply container which oscillating means are intended to disengage the goods from the inner wall of the supply container. However, experience has shown that such oscillating means in many instances bring about the opposite effect, namely a compacting of the goods so that the feeding operation is made even poorer.
It is, therefore, an object of the present invention to provide a device for feeding pourable goods, which will overcome the above mentioned drawbacks.
It is another object of this invention to provide a device for feeding pourable goods which will assure a feeding of precisely dosed goods, even when such goods consist of cohesive and adhesive material.
These and other objects and advantages of the invention will appear more clearly from the following specification in connection with the accompanying drawing diagrammatically illustrating a longitudinal section through a device according to the present invention.
The present invention is based on the finding that the feeding of cohesive and adhesive goods from a supply container can be assured when such supply container cooperates with rotary pipe feeding elements known per se. The present invention is characterized primarily in that a rotary pipe is connected rigidly or by means of a flexible hollow shaft to a rotating supply container with conical "ice extension means at least at one end face of said container. The said container is during the feeding operation inclined relative to the horizontal plane and is dur ing the filling operation proper inclined either relative to a feeding outlet or is tiltable vertically below such feeding outlet.
A device designed in this way for meting out and dosing pourable goods will in view of the inclined position of the supply container and the simultaneous rotational movement thereof permit a trouble-free emptying operation. Structurally, the device according to the invention has the advantage that no sliding and thereby wear-subjected sealing means are required between the hollow shaft and the feeding container outlet because the hollow shaft is fixedly connected to the said outlet. When pourable goods are involved which have the tendency to lump together, means, such as metal blades or the like or rotatable bodies rotating with said material, as for instance balls, may be employed in the conical portion of the supply container.
FIGS. 1 and 2 are side elevational views of apparatus in accordance with the present invention.
Referring now to the drawing (FIG. 1) in detail, the material to be conveyed is passed through a hopper 1 or the like into a supply container 2 which through a flexible hollow shaft 3 is connected to a rotary pipe 4. According to the specific embodiment shown in the drawing, the container 2 may be filled when occupying its inclined position shown in the drawing. However, since the discharge opening of said container 2 is tiltably journalled at 5, the container 2 may be tilted into a vertical position in which it then can be filled. The supply container 2 is rotatably journalled on rollers 7 and within the range of its outlet 8 is journalled in antifriction bearings 9. If desired, the antifriction bearings 9 may also be replaced by another type of bearing. The rotation of the supply container 2 is efiected by means of a motor 10, a pulley 11 and a pulley 12 fixedly connected to the outlet section 8 of the container 2 and driven from the pulley 11 through a belt not shown. The filling of the supply container 2 which may be elfected while the latter is in its inclined position shown in the drawing or in a vetrical position, may be done in a continuous manner or at intervals.
In view of the rotation of the supply container 2, the material to be conveyed is continuously kept in motion and in view of its gravity moves toward the outlet 8 and aided by the simultaneous rotational movement of the hollow shaft 3 passes into the rotary pipe 4 from where the material to be conveyed is continuously dosed and conveyed to the consumer. In view of the fact that the rotary pipe 4 is at 5 journalled for tilting in vertical as well as in horizontal direction, it will be appreciated that on one hand the quantity to be meted out can be precisely dosed by selecting the desired angle in vertical direction and on the other hand can, by adjusting the angle in horizontal direction, be conveyed to a plurality of consumer stations.
In the other drawing (FIG. 2) the rotary conveying pipe 13 is rigidly connected to the supply container 2. The supply container 2 and the rotary conveying pipe 13 is carried on the bearing 16 and the working cylinder 14. By means of the working cylinder 14 the container 2 and the rotary conveying pipe 13 may be tilted in a vetrical direction. The working cylinder 14 is arranged on a baseplate 15. The base-plate 15 may be rotary moved in a horizontal direction on a bearing 17, fixed on a plate 18 on the foundation 19. With a pin or bolt 20 the baseplate 15 is rigidly connected on the foundation 19. In the other drawing (FIG. 2) the rotary conveying pipe 13 is rigidly connected to the supply container 2. The supply container 2 and the rotary conveying pipe 13 is carried on the bearing 16 and the working cylinder 14. -By means 3 of the working cylinder 14 the container 2 and the rotary conveying pipe 13 may be tilted in a vertical direction. The Working cylinder 14 is arranged on a base-plate 15. The base-plate 15 may be rotary moved in a horizontal direction on a bearing 17, fixed on a plate 18 on the foundation 19. With a pin or bolt 20 the base-plate 15 is rigidly connected on the foundation 19.
What we claim is:
1. A device for meting out and dosing pourable goods, especially adhesive and cohesive goods flowing with difficulty, which includes: a rotatable storage container having conical extension means at least at one end thereof, means for rotating said container, a rotary conveying pipe communicating with said conical extension means, a flexible tubular member interconnecting said container and said rotary pipe and establishing communication therebetween, and means pivotally supporting said rotatable container, whereby said container may during the conveying operation of said rotary conveying pipe oc- 4 cupy a position in which its axis of rotation is inclined relative to a horizontal plane and when being charged may selectively occupy a position in which its axis of rotation is vertical or is inclined relative to the horizontal plane.
