Cl. 248-2 7 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A mounting means for rock drilling apparatus positioning booms has a base designed in a hinge-like manner with one leaf of the hinge base carrying journal bearings thereon for the drill boom and the other leaf providing a support for a hydraulic power ram connectable to the drill boom for swinging the latter in said journal bearings, said base being mountable on extraneous support selectively with the leafs of the hinge base in alignment with or at an angle to one another.
This invention relates to a mounting means for drill booms and more particularly to drill booms adapted for positioning a rock drilling apparatus to different alternative positions with respect to a work surface and in which the drill boom is arranged adjustably by means of hydraulic power ram means. Mounting means of that type together with appurtenant drill booms and rock drilling apparatus are intended for being mounted on drill wagons and drill rigs of highly variable embodiment. Thus the rock drilling apparatus and drill boom are often designed for alternative right-hand or left-hand mounting and the drill booms are grouped side by side and one over the other so that during positioning of the drilling direction the drilling field for the various drill booms and rock drilling apparatus can be chosen optimal with respect to the desired work surface cross section. To meet such diversified mounting requirements the necessary number of design components has to be large which increases the costs of the complete drill boom system.
It is the main object of the invention to provide a mounting means for drill booms which will offer a great variety of mounting alternatives but involving a reduced number of design components capable of offering a fully diversified group mounting thereof on wagons and rigs. To this end there is according to the invention provided a mounting means for drill booms comprising a base, journal bearings on said base, a drill boom pivotally supported in said journal bearings, a hydraulic power ram coupled pivotally between said base and to said drill boom for swinging the latter in said journal bearings, said base being divided in hinge-like manner by means of a hinge point parallel with the pivot axis of said journal bearings into a journalling leaf portion carrying said journal bearings thereon and a support leaf portion having connecting means thereon for pivotally supporting the end of said power ram remote from said drill boom, additional connecting means on said drill boom for pivotally connecting thereto the adjacent end of said power ram, and said leaf 3,459,394 Patented Aug. 5, 1969 portions having means thereon for the connection thereof to suitable extraneous support selectively with said leaf portions substantially in alignment with one another or at an angle to one another.
The above and other objects of the invention will become obvious from the following description and from the accompanying drawings in which a preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example. It should be understood that this embodiment is only illustrative of the invention.
In the drawings FIG. 1 shows a top plan view of the mounting means carrying a drill boom thereon shown fragmentarily. FIG. 2 is a view partly in section seen on the line 22 in FIG. 1. FIG. 3 is a side view of the device in FIG. 1. FIG. 4 shows an alternative base mounting of the mounting means in FIG. 1.
The mounting means in the figures includes a base 13, 29 and a vertical upright 10 which is turnably journalled between a pair of journal bearings 11 on a journalling leaf portion 13 forming part of the base 13, 29. The bearings 11 are supported on the journalling leaf portion 13 by brackets 12. The journalling leaf portion 13 has bolt holes 14 therein for the insertion of bolts and may be screwed fast by the latter to extraneous support 15, such as for example suitable connecting beams included in a drill wagon or drill rig, not shown.
The upright 10 carries at its upper end between suitable journalling supports a pair of coaxial journal pins 16 providing a horizontal pivot axis about which a drill boom 17 is pivotally journalled in a vertical central plane through the longitudinal axis of the upright 10. The boom 17 carries in conventional manner pivotally and adjustably thereon a rock drilling apparatus, not shown. For adjustment of the elevation angle of the drill boom 17 in the central plane there is pivotally journalled a pair of hydraulic power ram means 18 at the cylinder end thereof to a pair of brackets 19 afiixed to the upright at both sides thereof. The piston rods of the hydraulic ram means 18 are pivotally journalled in a pair of brackets 20 at both sides of the drill boom 17. Obviously the elevation angle of the drill boom 17 may be adjusted by extension or contraction of the hydraulic ram means 18.
In association with a central plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the upright 10, the upright 10 carries a pair of spaced parallel plates 22 perpendicular thereto provided with a number of angularly spaced coaxial through holes providing connecting points for pivotal connection to the plates 22 of a hydraulic power ram means 23 for adjustment of the side swing angle of the drill boom 17. Two pairs of these holes 24, 25 are disposed in radially spaced relation to the upright 10 at both sides thereof while two other pairs of holes 26, 27 are disposed in radially spaced relation rearwardly of the same in substantial alignment with the drill boom 17.
At one side of the journalling portion 13 there is journalled between suitable connecting cars a pair of coaxial pivots 28 providing a hinge joint parallel with the upright 10. A support leaf portion 29, also forming part of the base 13, 29, is pivotally journalled or hinged about the pivots 28 to the journalling leaf portion 13 with the two portions 13, 19 thus providing leafs for the base 13, 19 in a hinge-like manner being pivotable about the pivots 28. At the outer end of the support leaf portion 29 the cylinder end of the hydraulic side swing angle ram means 23 is pivotally connected to a pivot 30 between connecting ears 31. The piston rod of the side swing angle ram means 23 is by means of a detachable pivot pin 32 selectively connectable to any of the pairs of holes 24-27 in the plates 22. In FIG. 1 there is thus seen that the pivot pin 32 may be connected to the holes 26 rearwardly of the upright when the support leaf portion 29 is coplanar with the journalling leaf portion 13. In such position the support leaf portion 29 is afiixed by bolts, not shown, inserted in bolt holes 33 to suitable extraneous support 34 on the drill wagon. Obviously extension or contraction of the side swing angle ram means 23 results in swinging of the drill boom 17 about the longitudinal axis of the upright 10 so that the drill boom 17 and the rock drilling apparatus, not shown, carried thereby may be adjusted to the desired side swing angle. As indicated by dot and dash lines in FIG. 1, the support leaf portion 29 may alternatively be turned to a suitable angle relative to the journalling leaf portion, for example to a rearwardly set perpendicular position 35 and afiixed to other suitable extraneous support 36 on the drill wagon. In such case the piston rod of the side swing angle ram means 23 is connected by means of the pivot pin 32 to the side holes 25 of the plates 22. It appears that the angular mounting permits affixing of the base 13, 29 in an outer position on the drill wagon without increasing the dimensions of the wagon laterally. As an alternative one gains greater freedom to choose the disposition of the extraneous support 15, 34, 36 carried by the drill wagon.
It is obvious from FIG. 2 that, thanks to the symmetric design of the upright 10, the journalling leaf portion 13 with the brackets 12 and the journal bearings 11 thereon, can be turned 180 degrees with respect to the upright 10 so that the support leaf portion 29 selectively can be placed to the right, FIG, 1, or to the left, FIG. 4, of the upright 10. Similarly to FIG. 1 there can be had in the left-hand position according to FIG. 4 various affixing alternatives for the support leaf portion 29 by way of changing the angle between the latter and the journalling leaf portion 13. With the support leaf portion 29 in alignment with the journalling leaf portion 13, the pivot pin 32 of the side swing angle ram means 23 is coupled pivotally to the plates 22 at the holes 27 rearwardly of the upright 10. Thus the mounting means will be supported by the extraneous support and 34 If the support leaf portion 29 is placed for example at right angle to the journalling leaf portion 13, there will be had the position 37 depicted by dot and dash lines in FIG. 4 with the side swing angle ram means 23 supported at the supports 36 and the pivot 32 thereof journalled in the plates 22 at the holes 24 to the left of the upright 10.
The support leaf portion 29 has upwardly and down wardly thereon side plates extending to the pivots 28 and provided with bolt holes 38 therein which are used for screwing the support portion 29 to horizontally disposed extraneous support 39, FIG. 2. Similar holes 43 are provided in the upper and lower portions of the journalling leaf portion 13. In the perpendicular angular position shown by dot and dash lines in FIGS. 1 and 4, the support leaf portion 29 can furthermore be fixed directly to the journalling leaf portion 13 by means of bolts, not shown, inserted through holes 40, FIGS. 2 and 3, provided in cross plates 41 arranged at the sides of the side swing angle ram means 23 on the support leaf portion 29. For such fixation the holes 40 are turned into alignment with holes 42, FIG. 2, provided in the journalling leaf portion 13.
What I claim is:
1. Mounting means for drill booms adapted for positioning a rock drilling apparatus to different alternative drilling positions with respect to a work surface and comprising a base having means thereon for the connection thereof to suitable extraneous support, journal means on said base, an upright horizontally pivotally mounted on said journal means, a drill boom vertically pivotally supported on said upright, hydraulic power ram means connected between said upright and said drill boom for adjusting the elevation angle of the latter with respect to said upright and base, another hydraulic power ram means coupled pivotally between said base and upright for adjusting the side swing angle of the latter and said drill boom thereon with respect to said base, said base being divided in hinge-like manner by means of a hinge joint parallel with the pivot axis of said upright into a journalling leaf portion carrying said journal means and upright thereon and a support leaf portion having connecting means thereon for pivotally supporting the end of the side swing angle ram means remote from said upright, and said upright having angularly spaced alternative connecting points thereon for pivotally connecting thereto the adjacent end of said side swing angle ram means selectively in substantial alignment with said drill boom and upright or laterally of said upright depending on whether the support leaf portion is mounted on said extraneous support substantially in alignment with the journalling leaf portion or at angle thereto.
2. Mounting means according to claim 1 in which said upright is supported pivotally between a pair of vertically spaced journal hearings on said journalling leaf portion and said upright is selectively mountable in said journal bearings with said hinge joint alternatively to the right or to the left of said upright.
3. Mounting means according to claim 2 in which said angularly spaced connecting points of said upright are provided in radially spaced relation on said upright on one hand rearwardly and on the other at both sides thereof.
4. Mounting means for drill booms comprising a base having means thereon for the connection thereof to suitable extraneous support, journal bearings on said base, a drill boom pivotally supported in said journal bearings, a hydraulic power ram coupled pivotally between said base and to said drill boom for swinging the latter in said journal bearings, said base being divided in hinge-like manner by means of a hinge joint parallel with the pivot axis of said journal bearings into a journalling leaf portion carrying said journal bearings thereon and a support leaf portion having connecting means thereon for pivotally supporting the end of said power ram remote from said drill boom, and said drill boom having angularly spaced alternative connecting points thereon for pivotally connecting thereto the adjacent end of said power ram selectively in substantial alignment with said drill boom or laterally thereof depending on whether said support leaf portion is mounted on said extraneous support substantially in alignment with said journalling leaf portion or at an angle thereto.
5. Mounin g means according to claim 4 in which said drill boom is supported pivotally between a pair of coaxially spaced journal bearings on said journalling leaf portion and said drill boom is selectively mountable in said journal bearings with said hinge joint alternatively to the right or to the left of said drill boom.

Mounting means for drill booms comprising a base, journal hearings on said base, a drill boom pivotally supported in said journal bearings, a hydraulic power ram coupled pivotally between said base and to said drill boom for swinging the latter in said journal bearings, said base being divided in hinge-like manner by means of a hinge joint parallel with the pivot axis of said journal bearings into a journalling leaf portion carrying said journal bearings thereon and a support leaf portion having connecting means thereon for pivotally supporting the end of said power ram remote from said drill boom, additional connecting means on said drill boom for pivotally connecting thereto the adjacent end of said power ram, and said leaf portions having means thereon for the connection thereof to suitable extraneous support selectively with said leaf portions substantially in alignment with one another or at an angle to one another,
7. Mounting means according to claim 6 in which said additional connecting means comprises alternative connecting points on the drill boom for the pivotal connection of the adjacent end of said power ram selectively in substantial alignment with said drill boom or laterally thereof.
