No. 618,402
Int. Cl. B65d 35/08 1 Claim ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A hanger for attachment to the base of a flexible tube for suspending it from a rod or holder.
Description of the invention The invention will be described with reference t the two attached sheets of drawings Iwherein:
FIGURE 1 shows one variation of my hanger attached to a flexible plastic tube and suspended from a single arm bathroom fixture;
FIGURE 2 is a cross-section taken on lines 2, 2 of FIGURE 1;
FIGURE 3 is a partial section taken on lines 3, 3 of FIGURE 2;
FIGURE 4 shows a second variation of my tube attached to a plastic tube;
FIGURE 5 is a section taken on lines 5, 5 of FIG- URE 4;
FIGURE 6 is a section taken on lines 6, `6 of FIG- URE 4;
FIGURE 7 shows a third variation of my hanger;
FIGURE 8 is a view taken on line 8, 8 of FIGURE 7;
FIGURE 9 is a fourth variation of my hanger;
FIGURE 10 is a section taken on lines 10, 10 of FIG- URE 9;
FIGURE 11 is a fifth variation of my hanger;
FIGURE 12 is a sixth variation of my hanger;
FIGURE 13 is a seventh variation of my hanger; and
FIGURE 14 is an eighth variation of my hanger.
This invention relates to a hanger for the common ilexible plastic tube which is today used for packaging a Wide variety of consumer products. Illustrative of these products are shampoos, liquid soaps, bath oil, skin cleaners, medicaments, creams, lotions, food spreads, condiments, and lubricating products. Such a tube is illustrated at in FIGURE 1. One end of the tube will convenltially contain a cap, 21, cooperating with a spout, not shown, itself attached to the tube by a circular disk. The other end of the tube, 20, will be closed after the product is inserted in the tube by a crimping and heat-sealing process. This forms a base, 22, which is both longer than the diameter of the tube and is thicker than both Wall sections of the tube.
The two variations of my hanger shown in FIGURES 1 and 12 utilize the protuberances 23 of base 22 for attaching to the tube. The variation shown in FIGURE 1 may be a hollow plastic tube 24, formed in a semicrcle,
3,446,468 Patented May 27, 1969 lCe the extreme inward portions of which contain apertures 2S for receiving the protuberances 23.
The variation shown in FIGURE l2 comprises a semicircular-shaped hook portion 26 of either tubular or solid plastic material and two short legs 27 and 28. These legs e-ach contain indented portions 29 and 30 for receiving the protuberances 23 of the tube base 22. The plastic material will contain suiiicient resiliency so that legs 27 and 28 may be spread apart for slipping over the base member as desired.
Variations of my hanger shown in FIGURES 4, 7, 9, and 1l utilize the enlarged cross-sectional area of base 22 for attachment to the tube.
The variation shown in FIGURE 4 comprises a semicircular tubular member, open at the side, and containing a slit 31 at the bottom terminating with apertures 32, 33. The variations shown in FIGS. 7, 9, and 11 all contain a horizontal bottom portion 34 with a similar slit at the bottom. As shown in FIG. 10, the hanger shown in FIG. 9 may have a solid, and therefore stiffer, semicircular element, attached to the hollow horizontal member. All of these hangers slip over and grasp the base as shown in FIG. 6.
The variation shown in FIG. 13 is designed for integral molding with the plastic tube at the time of sealing the base.
The variation shown in FIG. 14 contains a button 35 which snaps into hole 36 which has been stamped out of the base ofthe tube.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A unitary detachable plastic hanger for suspending a Hexible plastic tube, having -an enlarged axial base portion, by said base from a rod 0r holder comprising:
(a) a hollow tubular base portion slit at the bottom for encirclement of the enlarged axial base portion of the flexible plastic tube;
(b) said hollow tubular base portion containing enlarged apertures at each end of the slit for insertion of the enlarged base portion of the iiexible plastic tube into the tubular base portion.
(c) a semicircular hook integrally attached to said hollow tubular base portion, said hook containing an opening on one side whereby the hook and attached flexible plastic tube may be slid over and hung from a rod or holder.
