Application filed Novcmbcr12, 1885. Serial No. 182,542. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. WIGMORE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city and county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Surgical Instrument, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to furnish an instrument for caponizing fowls.
The accompanying drawing illustrates my improved instrument, which consists of a shank or handle, (I, one end of which is furnished with a spoon, a, having in it a V- shaped slot, 1), the sides of which are ground to a sharp edge, and the other end of which is furnished with a bent point, 0.
The bent point e of the instrument is used to tear away the tissues surrounding the testicle, after which the latter is placed in the spoon a, the tissues by which it is attached to 20 the fowl passing through the V- shaped slot 1). The spoon is now raised and at the same time turned around, severing the tissues and removing the testicle from the fowl.
Having thus described my invention, I 2 claim-- 1. In an instrument for caponizing fowls, the spoon a, with V-shaped slot 1), substan tially as and for the purposes set forth.
