A47f 5/00; D06f 81/00 U.S. Cl. 211-86 7 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates broadly to an improvement in a device for hanging clothes on an ironing board and more specifically to a base bracket member including a receiver portion from which extends a pair of deformable wing portions diverging outwardly of the receiver, each wing portion having a flange formed with a hole through which a nut-equipped bolt is extended whereby the flange portions are drawn up in tight engagement with underside portions of the board of an ironing board thereby positioning the receiver portion normal to the board. With the Wing portions deformable the device is adaptable to various types of ironing boards and the receiver mounts a rod on which is mounted a bar upon which clothes hangers and the like may be hung.

It will not be here attempted to set forth and indicate all of the various objects and advantages incident to the invention, but other objects and advantages will be referred to in or else will become apparent from that which follows.

The invention will appear more clearly from the following detailed description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, showing by way of example a preferred embodiment of the inventive idea wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout.

FIGURE l is a perspective View of the clothes hanger support in operative position on an ironing board.

FIGURE 2 is a top plan view of the bracket.

FIGURE 3 is a section substantially on the line 3-3 of FIGURE l, portions thereof being broken away.

FIGURE 4 is a view substantially on the line 4`4 of FIGURE 3.

FIGURE 5 is a sectional view on the line FIGURE 3.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the device A for hanging clothes on an ironing board includes the bracket 10. The bracket 10 includes the hollow cylindrical receiver portion 12, and extending from the lower end of the portion 12 yand normal thereto are the

14 and 16 are integral with the receiver portion 12 at the inner ends thereof and extend therefrom in a diverging formation.

The wing 14 includes the wall portion 18 and the flange 20 extending outwardly thereof and at a right angle thereto. The wing 16 includes the wall portion 22 and the flange 24 extending outwardly thereof and at a right angle thereto. The flange 20 has formed therein the slot 26, and the flange 24 is formed with the slot 28.

The numeral 30 designates a normally vertical support rod the lower end of which fits into the receiver 12. Further provided is the arm 32 which is channel shaped in cross-section. The cross-sectional dimension is suflicient to receive the rod 30 and the receiver' 12. The inner end of the arm 32 is cut away as at 34 thereby forming the shoulder 36 and a pair of spaced ear formation 38. The arm 32 is pivotally mounted on the support rod 30 by means of the pin 40 extending through the pair of ears 38 and the `upper end portion of the rod 30. The wing wall 14 is formed with the notch 35 thereby forming the ear 37, and the wing wall 18 is formed with an identical notch 39 and ear 41.

With the hanger arm 32 pivoted to the position shown in full line in FIGURE 3 the shoulder 36 engages the rod 30 and the arm is held in a horizontal position normal to rod 32 shown in FIGURES 1 and 3 in particular. The upper edges of the channel shaped arm 32 have formed therein the spaced notches 33. The arm 32 may be pivoted from the full line position thereof whereby the rod 30 is within the arm 32 thereby placing the arm in a stored or out of the way position when not in use. The length of the arm 32 is such that it is short of the

14 and 16 at the point where the same emanate from the receiver portion 12 when the arm is in the broken line position of FIGURE 3. Adjacent the lower end of the receiver 12 is the indent 40 which provides a shoulder against which the lower end of the rod 30 abuts to maintain the rod in the receiver 12 as shown in FIGURE 3.

The bracket 10 is mounted on the board B by engaging the lip 42 of the board B within the notches 37 and 39, as shown particularly in FIGURES 3 and 4. A bolt 44 is then positioned through a hole in Board B and through the hole 26 of the flange 20 and the same drawn up by means of the nut 46. A bolt 48 is positioned through a hole in Board B and through the hole 2-8 of the flange 24 and the same drawn up by means of the nut 49. In some ironing boards, such as B, there is provided the depending parallely disposed spaced

The arm 32 is easily stored upon the rod 32, and the rod together with the arm 32 are easily inserted into and removed from the receiver 1,2.

The invention is not to be understood as restricted to the details set forth since these -may be modified within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:

1. A device for hanging clothes and the like on an ironing board comprising:

(a) a bracket including a receiver,

(fb) divided extension means formed on said receiver,

and extending normal to said receiver,

(c) flat flange means formed on said extension means at a right angle thereto,

(d) means for positioning said flange,

(e) means on the under side of a board of an ironing board to mount the bracket on the board,

(f) a support member comprising an elongated rod,

(g) means for supporting said support member in said receiver,

(h) an elongated arm having a U-shaped cross section sufficient to receive said support and pivotally connected at its inner end to the outer upper end of said support member for placement of said support within said U-shaped cross section, and

(i) shoulder means formed on said arm for engagement with said support for maintaining said arm extended at a right angle to said support member and on which clothes and the like may be hfung.

2. The device of claim 1 in which (a) said extension means includes first and second wing portions extending from said receiver in dverging relationship.

3. The device of claim 2 inwhich (a) said securing means includes an opening formed in said ange means, and

(b) a nut-equipped bolt for extension through said opening and opening in the board of an ironing board to connect said ange means of said Wing portions to the underside of the board of an ironing board.

4. The device of claim 2 in which (a) said wing portions are deformable whereby the divergent relationship thereof may Ibe changed.

5. The device of'claim 1 in which (a) said securing means includes an opening formed in said flange means, and

(b) a nut-equipped bolt for extension through said opening and opening in the board of an ironing board to connect said ange means of said Wing portions to the underside of the board of an ironing board. 6. The device of claim 1 in which said means for maintaining said arm at a position normal to said support member includes shoulder means on said arm engageable with said support member.

7. A clothes support for mounting on an ironing board comprising:
