Description

March 4, 1969 A. G. DESKO MORTAR MIXING MACHINE Filed Oct. 20, 1967 INVENTOR. ALBEAT' G, DESKO United States Patent 4 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The mortar mixer disclosed herein provides a convenient self-propelled portable mixer and mortar box combination which enables bricklayers and other such persons to move their mortar from the place where the dry mortar is received to the place where the mortar is being used or where bricks are being laid with the minimum of physical effort. The agitator in the drum mixes the mortar while it is being moved. The mixer is being driven by an engine at the rear of the mixer near the driving Wheels while the mixing drum and mortar box are at the front. The mortar box support is low enough for convenient use.
This invention relates to mixers and, more particularly, to mixers suitable for mixing mortar for bricklayers and the like.
It is, accordingly, an object of the invention to provide an improved mortar mixer.
Another object of the invention is to provide a mortar mixer that is simple in construction, economical to manufacture, and simple and efiicient to use.
Another object of the invention is to provide a mortar mixer with a mixing drum, a mortar box support, and engine, along with driver seat and steering wheel, all supported on a self-propelled vehicle.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved mixing machine.
With the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists of the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the form, size, proportions, and minor details of construction without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is an isometric view taken of the front of the mixer according to the invention.
FIG. 2 is an isometric view of the mixer taken from the side thereof.
Now with more particular reference to the drawings, the mixer shown has a frame with drive wheels 11 supported on the back, and front wheels 12. A seat 13 for an operator supported on the frame between the engine 15 and the steering wheel 14. The engine 15 is connected by suitable belts, chains, or sprockets or the like to the drive wheels 11 and can be disengaged from them by a suitable lever, such as lever 16, in a manner well known to those skilled in the art. The front wheels 12 are suitably connected to the steering wheel 14 so that they can be steered in a suitable manner. Levers 17 and 18 may be connected to suitable belts, sprockets, chains or gears to connect and disconnect the mixing drum 21 and its agitator 22 to the engine 15. The mixing drum has an opening at its top, which is covered by a grid 24 and the mixing drum may be tilted about its horizontal axis 26 by the lever 23. A mortar box-support is disposed at the front of the frame slightly above the level of the front wheel axles and it may support a suitable mortar box 19. The drum will have suitable lips or chute 26 on it adjacent its openings to guide the mortar into the drum and direct the mixed mortar into the mortar box 19.
The steps 27 are provided for a convenient place for the operator to place his feet while driving the vehicle. A belt guard 25 is supported on the machine to cover the belt that connects the engine 15 to the agitator 22.
It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that an operator may sit on the seat 13 and drive the vehicle by means of the steering wheel 14 and the engine 15 and suitable control levers 16 to any suitable location; that is, from the place where the dry mortar is received where it may be emptied into the drum 21 and a suitable amount of water mixed with it and the mixing operation can take place. The agitator 22 is driven by the engine 15 as the vehicle is being driven from the site of receiving the dry mortar to the site where the mortar is to be used. When the destination for use of the mortar is reached, the operator may then grasp the lever 23 and rotate the drum 21 about its horizontal axis, emptying the mixed mortar into the mortar box 19. The bricklayer may then use the mortar from the mortar box 19.
A retractable platform made of telescoping pipes 40 received in openings 41 may be attached to the vehicle for carrying cement racks or the like.
The arms or mortar box support 20 may be fixed to the vehicle as shown to carry the mortar box 19 or the arms 20 could be supported in the manner of a conventional high lift so that the power of the machine could be used to lift the mortar box to a convenient elevation for use.
The foregoing specification sets forth the invention in its preferred practical forms but the structure shown is capable of modification within a range of equivalents without departing from the invention which is to be understood is broadly novel as is commensurate with the appended claims.
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
1. A machine for mixing and transporting mortar comprising:
a wheeled vehicle,
an engine on said vehicle,
means to selectively connect said engine to at least one of said wheels to drive said vehicle,
steering means on said vehicle,
means for supporting a mortar box on the front of said vehicle, a mixing drum supported on said vehicle above said mortar box support means,
said mixing drum having an open top,
mixing means rotatably supported in said mixing drum for mixing mortar in said drum while said drum is supported with said top upward,
and means to swing said drum about a horizontal axis to move said open top forward and downward to empty said drum into a mortar box supported on said mortar box support.
2. The machine recited in claim 1 wherein a seat is mounted on said vehicle and said engine is supported on said frame to the rear of said seat,
said mixing drum is supported on said frame to the front of said seat,
and said steering wheel is disposed between said mixing drum and said seat.
3. The machine recited in claim 2 wherein said support for said mortar box is disposed in front of said mixing drum and on the opposite side thereof from said steering wheel.
4. The machine recited in claim 3 wherein:
said means for supporting said mortar box comprises vertically swinging arms pivoted to said vehicle,
3 4 and power means operably connected to said engine 2,940,739 6/1960 Shideldecker 259177 X and to said arms is adapted to swing said arms up- 3,231,246 1/1966 Deen 259177 wardly and thereby lift said mortar box.
