Description

.ELM. LUCKETT.
. Y Car-Track Clearer.
No. 34,257. Patented Jan. 28, 1862. v
Witnesses= Inventor;
U ITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
E. M. LUCKETT, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVED MODE OF CLEANING SNOW FROM RAILROAD-TRACKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 34,257, dated January 28, 1862.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, E. MIcHAEL LUCKETT, of the cityof Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Clearing off Snow, Frost, and Dirt from Rails and Railroad-Tracks; and I hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in constructing a chamber (marked letter A) over the dome of the steam-boiler of a locomotiveengine above the safety-valve (marked letter B) to collect Waste steam therefrom, and in attaching to such chamber a steampipe, (marked letter E,) which will be guided by a valve-stem, (marked letter 0,) with valves attached to open the ordinary waste pipe (marked letter D) and close the other, (letter E,) and which, leading forward, will diverge into two pipes terminating at points immediately in front of the truck or guide Wheels and emptying upon the rails, with an improved snoW-shovel, (marked letter F,) all to be made steam-tight and to be regulated by the valves in the steam-chamber.
hat I claim as myinvention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The addition of a chamber over the dome of the steam-boiler of a locomotive-engine and the introduction of a pipe to convey the Waste steam to the rail, as set forth in the drawing, which, with the aid of an improved snow-shovel, will cleanse the rail from snow, frost, and dirt, thus improving the speed of the engine and turning the Waste of steam to a profitable account.
