Description

ATTORNEYS A. D. RAYNOR RACK FOR CLIP oN TYPE NEcKTIEs Filed Nov. 25, 1966 Aram-m2 13.12AYNQ2 Jan. 7, 1969 United States Patent C) 4 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A rack for clip on type neckties generally including an elongated base member having a pluralityv of vertically spaced, inclined clip supporting elements on which the attaching clips of neckties are supported.
This inventionrelates to a necktie rack, and more par ticularly to a rack for clip on type neckties.
Recently, neckties of the clip on type including both four-in-hand and' bow neckties, have come into increasingly popular usage. Such type of neckties have become more increasingly popular due to the fact that they can readily be applied toV a shirt collar in comparison to conventional neckties which require time and at least some skill in tying the same. Clip on neckties further have been found to be popular, due to their consistent neat appearance which is assured as a result of being pretied.
vIt has been found, however, that most necktie racks in :the prior art are not entirely suitable for storing clip onftype neckties.,` The majority of prior art necktie racks are adapted exclusively for storing conventional type neckties. Of those adapted for use exclusively for clip on type neckties, they have been found not to be entirely satisfactory in construction and use.
Accordingly, it is the principal object of this invention to provide a novel necktie r-ack.
Another object of this invention is to provide a novel rack for clip on type neckties.
A further object of this invention is to provide a novel ra-ck for clip on type neckties including both four-in-hand and bow neckties.
A still further object of this invention is to provide an improved rack for clip on type neckties, which is effective in preserving the cleanliness and original style of the neckties supported thereon.
Another object of this invention is to provide an improved rack for clip on type neckties, which is adapted to prevent damage to the attaching clips of the individual neckties.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a novel rack for clip on type neckties, which permits a full display of all the neckties supported thereon, thereby facilitating the selection lof individual neckties.
A still further object of the present invention is to provide an improved rack for clip on type neckties, which permits the removal and replacement of individual neckties without disturbing other neckties supported on the rack.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a novel rack for clip on neckties, which is ellective in positively securing the neckties on the rack.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a novel rack for clip on type neckties, which is simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent to those persons skilled in the art, from the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, wherein:
FIGURE l is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention;
FIGURE 2 is front elevational view of the embodiment, having a portion thereof broken away;
3,420,383 Patented Jan, 7, 1969 FIGURE 3 is a cross-sectional view taken along line 3-3 in FIGURE 2; and
FIGURE 4 is a cross-sectional view taken along line 4 4 in FIGURE 2.
Brieily described, the present invention relates to a rack Ior clip o'n type neckties, generally comprising a base member having a plurality ot `vertically spaced, inclined clip supporting elements on which the attaching clips of the neckties are supported. Preferably, the base member is elongated, the clip supporting elements are disposed along me length of the base member and are inclined in opposite directions alternately whereby neckties may be supported on opposite sides of the rack, and each of the supporting elements is provided with a spring element cooperatively engageable with an attaching clip of a Clip on necktie supported thereon, for positively retaining the necktie on the rack.
Referring to the drawing, there is illustrated an embodiment of the invention. The embodiment includes an elongated base member 10, having a longitudinally disposed, elongated opening 11 substantially along the entire length thereof providing side base portions 12 and 13, a bottom base portion 14 and an upper base portion 15. The base member 10 is adapted to be suspended from a hook element 16 which is secured to the upper end thereof. As best seen in FIGURES 2 and 3, the hook element 16 is provided with a shank 17, which extends through an opening 18 in the upper end of the base member into a transverse opening 19 in the upper base portion 15 of the ibase member. The lower end of the shank 18 is enlarged, as at 20, within the transverse opening 19, to support the base member 10 and permit the base member to swivel 'about the shank 17 of the hook element.
The elongated opening 11 is provided with -a pair of transversely spaced side walls 21 and 22. Longitudinally spaced within the elongated opening 11 and secured to opposed side walls 21 and 22 of the opening is a plurality of bridging plate elements 23 on which the -clip on type neckties are supported. Each of the elements 23 is inclined relative to the horizontal when the rack is Suspended from the hook element 16. In addition, the elements 23 are inclined in opposite directions alternately, as best illustrated in FIGURE 3, to permit neckties to be supported on opposite sides of the rack.
Each of the lower ends of the support elements 23 is spaced inwardly from the front or rear surfaces 24 and 25 of the base member, and adjacent the next lower supporting element, to provide a narrow slit or opening for receiving the attaching clip of a clip on type necktie to support the lower support element. The supporting element next above each supporting element being inclined toward the receiving slit for the attaching clip, serves to guide the attaching clip toward and into the slit to facilitate the mounting of an lattaching clip on a supporting element 23. To assure positive retention of the attaching clips of the clip on neckties, each of the supporting elements 23 is provided with a struck-out portion 26 which functions as a retaining spring. As illustrated in FIGURE 3, the retention springs 26 engage the attaching clips 27 and 28 of clip on type four-in-hand necktie 29 and clip on type bow tie 30, to rmly hold the neckties on the rack.
In the use of the invention, as illustrated in the drawing, the rack 10 is suspended in any suitable storage space by means of the hook element 16. Clip on type neckties including both four-in-hand and bow neckties are secured on either side of the lbase member 10, merely by placing the attaching clips thereon on a supporting element 23. The spring element 26 engages the attaching clip of the necktie and serves to firmly hold the suspended necktie on the rack.
It will be seen that either four-in-hand type neckties or bow type neckties can be supported on either side of 3 the rack as described. Neckties on either side of the rack can be easily placed on or removed from the rack with a minimum of effort. In addition, the various neckties mounted on the rack will be clearly visible to permit selection of a necktie to be worn.
The necktie rack as described can be constructed from any suitable material and by any suitable method. It iS preferred, however, that the rack be constructed from a rigid and durable material, such as plastic, having an attractive color and nish. Furthermore, it is preferred that the necktie rack be molded, which would lower the cost of manufacture. It is to be understood, however, that the tie rack can be constructed of other materials, such as metal, wood and the like, and can be constructed by other methods as may be deemed suitable.
From the foregoing detailed description it will be evident that there are a number of changes, adaptations and modications of the present invention which come within the province of those skilled in the art. However, it is intended that all such variations not departing from the spirit of the invention be considered as within the scope thereof as limited solely by the appended claims.
