STEAV- GENERATOR.
{JPECIFICATION orming part of Letters Patent No. 34:l,7l6, dated Mfay 11, 1836.
Serial No. 0,761 (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concrn:
Be t known that I, GEORGE L. ALLEN, a citizen of the United States, residng at WVorcester, in the county of WVorcester and State of Massachusetts, have nvented certain new and useful Improvements in SteamGenerators; and I declare the following to be a description of my said invention, sufficiently full, clear, and exact to enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specificntion.
The object of my present invention is to provide a practical and convenient means of ntilizing' heat for raising the temperature of the returnwater, and assisting the eirculation in stean'-gencrators which are employed for heating buildings and other purposes; and my invention consists in the Construction and arrangenent of a hollow metal bridge-wall for the 'nrnace, and its connection with the returnpipes and boiler in the peculiar manner shown, and hereinafter described.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of a stean-generator illustrating the nat-ure of my invention. Fig. 2 is ahorizontal section of the same above the grate and bridge. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section at line a; x, and Fig. 4 is a transvcrse vertical section at line y y.
In referring to parts, A indicates the boiler, made in arched form, with dependent waterlegs a a along either side. B indicates the brick-work or boiler-setting; G, the chimneyfine; D, the door-front; E, the entrance for cleaning the tubes; F, the furnace; G, the grate bars, and H the steam-delivery, all of which parts may be constructed and arranged .in relation to each other substantially as shown. I
Across the furnace F, at the back of the grate-s, I arrange a bridge-wall, I, which is made of meta-l in the form shown, with a hollow nterior space for containing water. Said bridge I is constructed with an upright front and sloping back, and with closed ends that fit between the dependent sides or water-legs a a of the boiler, Conveniently filling the space across the furnace.
To the lower part of the bridge I are connected the retnrupipes J, that lead from the heatingradiators about the building, so that the water of condensation is returned into said bridge I before it enters the boiler.
From the upper part of the bridge I a pipe, K, extends backword and downward to a position near and below the rear end of the boiler, where it is provided with branches, as K', that extend laterally outward to the respective sides of the boiler, and there connect' the boiler and the hollow bridge are blown ofl" simultaneously through the pipes K, K ,and L.
What I claim as of my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of the boiler A, the hollow bridge-wall I, the return pipe or pipes J, leading into the lower part of said bridge, the pipe K, leading from upper part of said bridge, with branches K' coininunicating with the interior of the boiler at the lower rear part thereof, substantiallyas shown and described.
2. The combination of the boiler A, the hollow metal bridge I, the return-pipo J, the branched connccting-pipes K, and the blowoff L, leading froni said connecting-pipe as shown and described.
VVitness my hand this ?th dayof October, A. D. 1885. i
GEORGE L. ALLEX.
