PATENT OFFICE.
, on POMONA, ILLINOIs SLlTT lNG-GAGE.
EPEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 341,477, dated May 11, 1886.
Application filed August 81, 1885.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL HARGRAVE, Sn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pomona, in the county of Jackson and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in slitting-Gages; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear. and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it belongs or appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has relation to improvements in slitting-gages; and it consists in the construction, novel arrangement, and adaptation of devices, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, to which similar letters of reference are made indicating corresponding parts, Figure l is a perspective view of the device in an operative position, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same in an inverted position with the stock broken away.
Referring by letter to the said drawings, A indicates the stock, and B the guide-blocl ,he1d thereon by a set-screw in the ordinary manner, so that the same may be adjusted to or from the cutter, and guide the movements of the latter during operation.
E indicates a frame, which is provided with On the under side of this frame E issecured a laterally-extending frame, G, having short arms a a, for attachment to the said frame,
and an outer transverse bar, b, to receive the stock A,as shown. Between this outer bar,b,
and a parallel bar, 0, is journaled the rotary SerialNo. 175,836. (No model.)
cutter D,which is supported on a rod or shaft, L. which also passes through the follower-plate H. This follower-plate H is held in position against the side of the cutter by means of setscrews I I, which have threaded hearings in the bar 0 of the frame G, and their points extend into the said plate H. It will thus be seen that the shaft L of the cutter turns loosely in the plate H, and the said plate is held securely in position and against the outer side of the cutters, as desired, by means of the setscrews I I.
- By the employment of the plate H and the set-screws any wabbling or uneven movement of the cutter on its shaft will be prevented, and I therefore attach importance to the employment of such devices.
Having described this invention, what I claim is '1. The combination, with the frame E, provided with a handle portion, of the frame G, secured to the under side thereof,- the rotary cutter journaled in the said frame G,the plate H,arranged on the shaft of the cutter, and the set-screws I 1, bearing against the said plate, substantially as specified.
2. The combination, with the stock carrying the guideblock, of the frame G, carrying a rotary cutter and secured to one end of the stock, and a plate arranged on the shaft of the cutter and adapted to be held in true vertical position by means of adj listing-screws, sub stantially as specified.
SAMUEL HARGRAVE, SR.
