ADJUSTABLE WEIGHT EXERCISER FOR AN ATHLETIC IMPLEMENT Filed Oct. 21, 1965 INVENTOR. JZMMY A. 67057 United States Patent 3,414,260 ADJUSTABLE WEIGHT EXERCISER FOR AN ATHLETIC IMPLEMENT Jimmy A. Gust, 3231 Santa Fe Ave., Long Beach, Calif. 90810 Filed Uct. 21, 1965, Ser. No. 499,588 2 'Claims. (Cl. 272-57) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Athletes frequently desire an exerciser which is a part of some athletic implement with which the user might be adept, such as a tennis racket, a golf club, a baseball bat, or the like. Furthermore, the weight can be adjusted on the athletic implement to exercise certain muscles of the user. Thus the exercising weight can be moved to a position eccentric to the longitudinal center line of the athletic implement.
This invention relates to a weighted exerciser for athletic implements, such as a tennis racket, a golf club, a baseball bat, or the like.
An object of my invention is to provide a novel weighted exerciser of the character stated, in which the weights can be adjusted or removed as required by the particular user.
Another object of my invention is to provide a novel adjustable weight exerciser of the type which can be applied to various athletic implements without changing the basic construction of the weight holder.
Still another object is to provide a novel adjustable weight exerciser in which the weights can be added or removed as required from the particular implement to which the exerciser is applied.
Still another object is to provide a novel adjustable weight exerciser which can be fixed at different angles with respect to the hand grip portion of the implement, for example, the golf club handle, or a baseball bat.
Other objects, advantages and features of invention may appear from the accompanying drawing, the subjoined detailed description and the appended claims.

FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of my adjustable weight exerciser on a tennis racket frame.
FIGURE 2 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on line 2-2 of FIGURE 1.
FIGURE 3 is a fragmentary sectional view from line 3-3 of FIGURE 2.
FIGURE 4 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on line 4-4 of FIGURE 2.
FIGURE 5 is a perspective view of my adjustable weight exerciser affixed to a baseball bat.
FIGURE 6 is a perspective view of my adjustable weight exerciser affixed to a golf club handle.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral 10 indicates a tennis racket, which includes an oval shaped head or frame 11. For the purpose of this exerciser the usual strings are removed from the head 11 of the tennis racket. My exerciser 12 include a red or tube 13. A fixed pin 14 is positioned at the outer end of the head 11 and the tube or rod 13 fits over this pin, so as to accurately position the exerciser axially on the tennis racket or other implement 10. The opposite end of the tube or rod 13 is detachably secured to the head 11 in the following manner: A fitting 15 is fixedly mounted in the head 11, and this fitting is shaped to fit the complementary fitting 16 which is fixedly attached to one end of the tube or rod 13. A knurled bushing 17 extends through the fittings 15 and 16, and this bushing is held in position by the set screw 18. Because of the knurled structure of the bushing 17, the rod or tube 13 can be set at an angle to the longitudinal center line of the handle of the athletic implement, if such positioning is desirable. It will thus 'be evident that the tube or rod 13 can be removably mounted on a suitable athletic implement so that the user can exercise the muscles of the arm and shoulder to thus increase his proficiency.
A plurality of weights 19 are attached to the rod or sleeve 13, and one of the weights will engage a stop shoulder 20 on the rod or tube 13. The weights 19 are slidable on the rod or tube 13 and are held in position against the shoulder 20 by means of the collar 12 which is held in position by the set screw 22. It will be evident that the weights 19 can thus be readily removed or replaced as required. The rod or tube 13 with its attached weights can be mounted on the outer end of a baseball bat 23, or the handle of a golf club 24, so that the users of this type of athletic implement can exercise their muscles before participating in a game.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. An adjustable weight exerciser for an athletic implement of a striking type comprising, a rod, a Weight on said rod, means removably mounting the weight on said rod, and means detachably securing said rod to the athletic implement and wherein said means detachably securing said rod to the athletic implement permitting adjustable angular positioning of said rod relative to the longitudinal center line of the athletic implement.
2. An adjustable weight exerciser for an athletic implement of a striking type comprising, a rod, a weight on said rod, means removably mounting the weight on said rod, and means detachably securing said rod to the athletic implement, and said means detachably securing said rod to the athletic implement permitting adjustable angular positioning of said rod relative to the longitudinal center line of the athletic implement, and said means removably mounting the weight on the rod including a collar detachably mounted on the rod.
