UNITED STATES DAVI I) W'. DAVIS AND VILLTAM G.
LATIMER, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN,
ASSTGNORS TO SAU) W'ILLAM G. LATIllIER.
CASH-RECEIVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 340.770, dated April 27, 1886.
A pplicnlion filed December Zi, i895. Serial No. 184.543. (No model.) i
To' all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, Divin W. DAVIS and VVTLLIAM (l. Lirriimn, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cash- Registers; and we do herebydeclarc that the following is a full, velcar, and exact description thereof, relerence being had to the accompanying drawings, which l'orm a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and novel improvements in easlrreceivers; and the invention consists in the peculiar construction of a device containing a ticket-rack, ticket and money drawer, and mechanical appliances for displaying to the customer the amount of his pure-hase after the ticket of such purchase has been dropped into the device, and in the peculiar construction, arrangement, and combination of lthe various parts, all as more fully hereinafter set fort-l1.
- Figure l is a perspective view of our iinproved device from the rear, with the back wall removed. Fig. 2 is a central vertical longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the operating mechanism detached.'
ln the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, A represents a suitable casing, in which are inclosed the operating parts of our device, and' inl the front of which arc formed ticket receptacles or pockets l, of the ordinary construction of devices ol" this kind. ln the bottom of this casing A is located a cash-drawer, C, above which is a ticket-drawer, l), the former arranged to bcdrawu from the front of the case, while the latter is arranged to be drawn freni the side.
ln the upright portion of the case A, and at one side thereof,v is placed through proper openings er bearings a vertical rod, E, the lower end of which is pivotally secured to one end of a eounterwcghted lever, F, the opposite end of which carries a weight, G, thev function of such weighted lever being to keep the rod E in. the position shown in Fig. l. To the upper end of the rod E is pivotally secured one end of a bearing-rod, H, the opposite end of which is fulcrumed between the standards I. lVithin the casing and between the sides thereof `are journaled in proper bearings the rock-shafts T, K, and L, the shafts J and L being provided with downwardly-projecting wings M N, respectively, which, "hen in their normal position, are closed together, as shown in Fig. 1, while the central shafts, K,arc pro-v vided with the flanged wings t), which, when in their normal position, are open, as shown in the same ligure. Each of these rock-shafts J K L is provided with rock-arms P, which are slotted upon their free ends, as shown, said slots engaging with pins lprojectinglaterally from the bar E, to be operated as hereinafter set forth.
Near the lower end of the rod E is secured a bracket, R, which engages with the rear end of a counterbalanee hook-lever, S, fulcrumed to the easing or to suitable standards, as at a, the hook ot' such lever S being designed to engage with the rear wall of the money-drawer: C when the latter-.is closed. At the rear of this money-drawer issccured asuitable spring, T, for the purposes hereinafter described.
In practice the cashier, having sold a bill of goods of acertain amount, selects from the ticket-receptacle B a ticket bearing and designating the amount of sale. This ticket he drops into the opening V in the top of the casing A, at the same time pressing downwardly upon the bar H. This movement opens the wings M N, but closes the intermediate wings, 0, upon the shafts K, so that the ticket Vis dropped at once into and between and arrested by such wings O, the amount of purchase being designated .to thepurchaser through a glass panel iu the front of the case, while at the same time in the downward movement of the bar E the' bracket R compels the hook S to disengage from the money-drawer C, the spring T by its expansion causingsuch money-drawer to open. At this point the ticket introduced is displayed through a. glass or window, O', in the front of the case, from and suspended by the wings O. Upon the operator releasing the bar H the counterweight G causes the parts to assume their original position, when the ticket is dropped from'the wings O on the wings N, where it remains until the next ticket is introduced, and whence at that .time it drops into theticket-drawer D.
It will be observed that in this construction the cashier, at the same time thatvhe deposits the ticket, opens the money-drawer and allows IOC l l' v 340.770
xov sales, as the tickets thatv are deposited in the 4ticket-dravrer D'mnst correspond in amount to the amount of cash ix; the drawer, less the Y amount of change rst placed in sneh drawer;
of which a record is generally kept. v
15 What we claim as our invention isf- 1. In a cash-receiver, substantially as de scribed, the combination of the case A, pro-V vided lwith groups of rock-shafts J K L, carrying wings M, 0, and N. and the bar E, ar-
lplete cheek upon the cashier and amount of ranged 'to operate said rock-shafts, substaniY tially as and for the purposes set forth'.
2. In a cash-receiver, the combination of the case A, shafts J K L, wings M O N, rock-arms I, vertical bar E, and rod H, all constructed,
arranged, and operating substantially in the manner andfor the purposes described.
In a cash-receiver, the combination of the E, hooked lever S, fnlcrnxned'in said easing,
with one end arranged in the path of said bar and its other end hooked'to engage 'the rear edge of said drawer, and spring T, substantially as and for the purposes set fort-li.
