(Cl. 206-4524) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Background of the invention Display devices of the type in which blisters are used providing transparent pockets for an article usually are of complicated assembly requiring substantial time and labor to place the articles in position. Thus expense is involved in the providing of such a display package.

Summary This display package is formed up of a single sheet of cardboard with cutouts therein. There are substantially duplicate units formed from a single sheet. A separate transparent blister member for each unit provides pockets for the articles to be displayed and is positioned to extend through an opening in a cardboard panel. Folding of the cardboard secures the blister member in position and the articles in the pockets of the blister. Simple stapling secures all of the parts together. The forming of two backto-back units enables the device to be stood upon a horizontal surface with an easel-like effect.

FIG. 2 is a view on a somewhat larger scale of the panel combinations in back-to-back relation for shipping;

FIG. 3 is a plan view of the cardboard in one piece which is utilized for the panels;

FIG. 4 is a sectional view on a large scale illustrating the blister member as protruding through openings in the panels and the manner of securing the 'blister member in position; and

FIG. 5 is a plan view of the blister member.

Description of the preferred embodiment With reference to the drawings, designates the completed package arranged in easel-like fashion (FIG. 1) to stand upon a horizontal surface. The easel consists essentially of two panel combinations 11 and 12 which are folded from a single piece of cardboard as seen in FIG. 3 along the dotted line 14 shown in FIG. 3 forming the top, edge of the easel of FIG. 1. The single sheet of cardboar is cut out in the form which is to form two panel combinations.

Each of these panel combinations comprises a front panel 15 having an opening 16 located inwardly from its marginal-edge. A blister member 17 (FIG. 5) has a plurality of pockets 18 formed within its marginal edges. Its marginal edges 19 are of a size to overlap the marginal edges of the opening 16, while the pockets 18 protrude through the opening 16 and extend forwardly from the front surface 20 of the front panel 15. The protruding 3,406,815 Patented Oct. 22, 1968 pockets also assist in locating member 17 in opening 16. Articles 24 are positioned in each of the pockets and are secured therein by a back panel 25 which is hinged as at 26 to one edge of the front panel such as by scoring the cardboard so as to be folded over the back of the front panel and over the back of the articles in the pockets of the blister member so as to hold these articles and also the blister member in position when the panels are in face to face relation. 27 and 28 which may be placed at the upper and lower portions through the panels and the margins of the blister member 17 so as to secure the panels in face to face relation and the assembly in place. The panel combinations 11 and 12 being hinged enable the two panels to be spread apart as shown in FIG. 1 so as to enable them to be displayed in an easel-like manner. In order to provide some top member, a second score along the line 30 may be provided in each front panel spaced from the upper edge 14 and at a position at the same height as the lesser height back walls. The scored relation will enable the two panel combinations to be hinged along this line 30 so as to cause them to spread apart at a point spaced from the fold line 14 while a staple 31 may hold the upper portions of the front Walls in face to face relation.

Further a cut thru may be had in the back panel as at 35 along the line which will conform somewhat to the shape of the article being housed in the pocket 18 and by means of this cut, and the arrangement of a pull tab on the portion 36 within the scoring, this part may be swung downwardly along the dotted score line 37 so as to provide access to the pocket for easier removal of the articles within the pocket which in this case may be a pocket knife.

I claim:

1. A display package for portable articles comprising a pair of front panels joined together by a fold line at their upper edge and at an angle to a vertical plane to provide an easel and each panel having an opening therein, a blister member having a marginal edge overlapping the rear surface of the marginal edge of said opening in each panel and a portion of said member divided to provide a plurality of contiguous pockets, said member protruding through said opening in each panel beyond the front surface of said panel and opening from the back for the reception of a plurality of articles in said pockets, a rear panel in a single plane hinged to one edge of each front panel and extending over the open rear of said pockets to retain the plurality of articles in said pockets, means securing said front and rear panels in face to face relation with the marginal portion of the blister member therebetween, each said rear panel having a plurality of pull tabs one for each pocket, located along each of the pocket closing portions of the panel and formed by a cut thru line generally following a portion of the edge of each pocket and a fold line along a remaining portion of the edge of each pocket whereby a selected one of the articles in the pocket may be individually removed by opening the selected pull tab.
