automatically into water-pipes, for the purpose of saving the time and trouble of firstdrawing the water and afterward inserting the coagulant. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a cross-section of the entire ma-,

Referring to the drawings, K represents the case or outer covering of the machine. The shaft a is supported by and rotates in the bearings J J, which are attached to the innersides of the case K. This shaft a carries an ordinary motor-wheel, H, cam D, and a cylinder, A, all of which are fixed rigidly to said shaft.
The cylinder A is mounted within a cylindrical chamber, j, of the box B, and in which it revolves. In the outersurfaee of the cylinder Ais one or more pockets or receptacles, b b.
The circumference of the cylinder A corre..
sponds exactly in size with the periphery of the cylindrical chamber jin the box B, so as to form a perfectly tight-fitting joint. In the upper surface of the box B is an aperture to admit of the passage of liquid from the vessel G through the duct F into the pockets 1) b.
To unload the pockets and prevent them from returning filled with the water from below, I use a cut-off arranged in the following manner: 0 is a horizontal arm extending outward from the side of the box B, and starting from a point just above the aperture 9. Upon the under side of this arm 6 are two lugs, d d, projecting downward and having holes there Serial No. 17333971. (No model.)
in, which support the handle of a cut-off gate, 0. The gate 0 passes through the aperture 9, with its upper side lying closely to the upper edge of the aperture.
The inner edge of the gate 0 rests against the cylinder A. Said gate corresponds in width with that of the aperture 9. A spiral spring, 0, is i nterposcd between a pin, 2, which is inserted through the handle of the cut-off gate 0, and the outer lug, (I, to hold the gate tightly to its place against the cylinder A. This also allows of a backward and forward movement of the gate 0, which is necessary in its operation of passing in and outof thepockets Z) b.
To prevent any friction from the cutoff gate 0, and thereby prevent wear on the surface of the cylinder A between the pockets 0 b,a spur, f, is provided, which projects laterally from the cut-off gate 0 and extends to a cam, D. This cam gives a reciprocal motion to the cuto'l'f, whichv raises and drops it automatically off and on the surface of the cylinder at certain required points. I To keep asolid bearing,and prevent leakage from wear between the cylinder A and the upper surface of the cylindrical chamber of the box B, a rod, E, extending downward from the bottom 'oi'the boxll through the bottom of the case K, can be tightened, when necessary, from the outside of the case K by means of the thumb-nut h.
L is the inlet water-pipe, and M the outlet. As the water is put in motion while being drawn off, the force thus produced is thrown on the motor-wheel II from the inlet-pipe at L, which rotates the drivingshai't a, and this in turn drives the cylinder A, and by these means the pockets 7) b are filled with the coagulating solution from the vessel G, and are carried around to the opening 9 when the c0ntents of the pockets are forced out clean, and they return empty, as before, ready to receive another charge.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent isp 1. In an automatic water-pipe-feeding attachment, the combination, with the external case, K, of the bearings J J and shaft a, carrying a motonwheel, H, the cam D, the cylinder A, havii'ig one or more pockets, M), in its outer surface, the induction-pipe F, the box B, and arm 0, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. In an automatic water-pipe-feeding attachment, the combination, with the drivingshaft a, which rotates in the bearingsJ J, ofthe motor-wheel H, the cam D, the cylinder A, the pockets 1) b, the induction-pipe F, the box B, and the arm 6, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. In an automatic water-pipe-feeding at-- tachment, the combination, with the'cylindor A. ofthe pockets b I), the box B, having therein a cylindrical chamber,-in which the cylinder A revolves, the axle a, anda pipe for conducting water on the motor-wheel H, substantially as herein shown and described.
4. In an automatic water-pipefeeding attachment, the combination, with the box B, of the arm 6, extending horizontally from the side of said box B, supporting-lugs d d, carrying the cut-ofl gate 0, the spring a, the cylinder A, the cam D, and the spur f, substantially as herein shown and described.
5. In an automatic water-pipefeeding attachment, the combination, with the box B, of the tighteningmod E, extending downward from the bottom of the box B through the bottom of the-case K, and having the thumb-nut h at the lower end, the induction-pipe F, the outer casing, K, and the journal-bearingsJ J, substantially as herein shown and described.
