Description

July 16, 1968 P. E BEATTY, SR 3,392,483
REMOTELY CONTROLLED PNEUMATIC SKIN DIVER TOY Filed Sept. 23, 1965 IN VIf/VTOR.
Paul E. Beanysn United States Patent 3,392,483 REMOTELY CONTROLLED PNEUMATIC SKIN DIVER TOY Paul E. Beatty, Sr., 4713 Dohn Road, Louisville, Ky. 40216 Filed Sept. 23, 1965, Ser. No. 489,482 5 Claims. (CI. 46-92) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A hollow submersible body having hollow inflatable legs attached thereto where springs are attached to the legs to urge them to first position at one air pressure and the legs move to a second position at a diflerent air pressure to propel the body. The body can include ballast means to selectively control the overall average density of the body.
It is therefore the main purpose of this invention to provide a skin diver toy which will be novel and will simulate a scuba diver which will utilize air and cause the legs to function as a real scuba divers legs do to propel the toy forward.
Another object of this invention is to provide a skin diver toy which will have air lines within the body of the toy to increase or decrease the air within the device for controlling the forward motion, a spear gun, and the buoyancy of the toy within the water.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a skin diver toy which the child may easily operate by squeezing dilTerent rubber balls to control the actions of the toy.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein a satisfactory embodiment of the invention is shown. However, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the details disclosed but includes all such variations and modifications as fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawing:
The drawing is the sole view of this invention shown partly in section.
According to this invention, a skin diver toy is provided with a hollow body 11 which contains a quantity of 'water which will give ballast to toy 10. Body 11 is made of plastic or other suitable material and is provided with a pair of hollow legs 13 and 13' which have compartments 14 on the interior in which a pair of tubes extend to allow air to be forced into legs 13 and 13' to force them downwards to a horizontal position with respect to the travel of the toy 10. A strip 17 on the back of the joint area of legs 13 and 13' is inherently springy and provides a means of returning the legs 13 and 13' to their normally bent position. A rubber ball 18 or 19 provides control means for the air entering legs 13 and 13'. By squeezing ball 18 or 19 the respective attached legs 13 or 13' are forced downward by the air pressure being received within the compartment 14 and when the pressure is released from ball 18 or 19 the strips 17 normally spring the legs back to a bent position. A ball 3,392,483 Patented July 16, 1968 20 provides air under pressure to a flexible tube 21 which is secured within the arm 22 of toy 10 and to the spear gun 23. When ball 20 is squeezed air travels through tube 21 and into spear gun 23 thus discharging a spear 24. A flexible tube 25 is secured at one end to a ball 26 which is confined within a box 26 and a rotatable screw device 27 provides a means of squeezing ball 26 to obtain a desired depth of toy in the water when the air is received within the body 11 above water 12 contained within body 11.
It will be noted that all the controlled rubber balls 18, 19, 20, and 26 may be confined within a hollow box 28 and a sleeve 29 may be used to tie all the air lines together.
What I now claim is:
1. A submersible toy comprising: a hollow body of selected shape to be submerged in a liquid; hollow flexible leg means connected to and extending .from said body; spring means aflixed to said leg means to urge said leg means to first position at first gas pressure in said leg means; pressurization means to selectively change gas pressure in said leg means so said leg means moves from said first position to at least one second position in response to said change in pressure so said body is moved through said liquid in response to movement of said leg means; and, ballast means to selectively control the average density of said body so said body can be selectively submerged in said liquid.
2. A skin diver toy, comprising, a hollow plastic scuba diver shaped body, a plurality of hollow rubber balls, a plurality of flexible tubes interconnecting said balls and hollow compartments on said diver, a pair of spring strips on said diver, and ballast means for keeping said toy submerged, said body of said device is provided with a pair of hollow legs, and the backs of said legs are provided with spring strips which are secured to the back of the legs and thus provides a means for returning the legs to a bent position after air has been released from within the hollow compartments of said legs.
3. A skin diver toy, comprising, a hollow plastic scuba diver shaped body, a plurality of hollow rubber balls, a plurality of flexible tubes, a pair of spring strips on said diver, and ballast means for keeping said toy submerged, said. tube enters into a hollow compartment of each of said legs of said toy and the other ends of said tubes are secured to hollow rubber balls, said rubber balls providing a means for exerting air under pressure into said hollow compartments to straighten said legs to provide forward propulsion for said toy.
4. A skin diver toy, comprising, a hollow plastic scuba diver shaped body, a plurality of hollow rubber balls, a plurality of flexible tubes, a pair of spring strips, and ballast means for keeping said toy submerged, a hollow rubber ball is secured to a tube and provides a means of introducing air into the cavity of the body of said toy, said cavity containing water for ballast and said air in said ball providing buoyancy for said toy allows more or less air to enter into the body cavity of said toy to raise or lower said toy within the water.
5. A skin diver toy comprising, a hollow plastic scuba diver shaped body, a plurality of hollow rubber balls, a plurality of flexible tubes, a pair of spring strips and ballast means for keeping said toy submerged, all of said 3 4 tubes secured to said balls are received within a sleeve References Cited thus confining the flexible tubes connected to said balls UNITED STATES PATENTS in order that they do not tangle or Whip around and sand balls are received within a box while said ball providing 2297727 10/1942 et 4692 2,920,419 1/1960 Glannone 4692 buoyancy air is received within a confined compartment 5 and screw means above said ball allows for said ball to LOUIS G, MANCENE, Primary Examiner. be depressed and the air to remain constant at a given pressure within the body cavity of said toy.
