LIGHTING UTENSIL, IN PARTICULAR FOR SMOKERS Filed Aug. 15, 1967 INVENTORS WERNER Acue/zrmmv IQA/vz ACHEKNANN ATTORNEYS United States Patent LIGHTWG UTENSIL, IN PARTICULAR FOR SMOKERS Werner Achermann and Franz Achermann, both of 71 Rumlangstrasse, 8052 Zurich, Switzerland Filed Aug. 15, 1967, Ser. No. 660,752 Claims priority, application Switzerland, Aug. 16, 1966, 12,043/66 1 Claim. (Cl. 206-29) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLQSURE A paper match booklet to which spaced transparent selfsticking adhesive strips are secured to a back wall thereof for mounting on a cigarette package with a removable cover foil overlying the spaced adhesive strips that is removable from the match booklet to permit its attachment to a cigarette package.
The present invention relates to a lighting utensil in which a match-carrier is provided with an adhesive part that is destined to be pasted on, before use, to the outside of a pack of smoking articles, said adhesive part before use being protected by a removable cover coat.
In known match-booklets the selfsticking surface which is provided with a tear-foil, is attached as narrow strip to the center portion of the booklet-back. This center portion, however, will yield when pressing the booklet against the pack of smoking articles so that the adhesion of the selfsticking surface on the pack is insuflicient.
According to the invention, the match carrier comprises a plurality of selfsticking areas at least on those portions thereof, which offer resistance when being pressed to a pack of smoking goods.
Thanks to the arrangement of said selfsticking areas, good adhesion is assured when pressing the match-booklet against the pack of smoking goods.
In the drawing are shown a plurality of embodiments of the invention.
FIGS. 1 to 4 show each a side view of different embodiments of the lighting utensil, and
FIG. illustrates the arrangement of the utensil n a pack of smoking goods.
According to FIG. 1, the lighting utensil that is formed as a booklet 1 of matches, is formed on the outside of its back portion with two spaced colorless and transparent selfsticking surfaces 2 disposed in strips and protected by a common tearable cover foil 3. The latter consists of transparent plastic and thus affords full view of the souvenir or advertising imprint commonly provided n the outside of the booklet-back.
In the example shown in FIG. 2, approximately the entire outside area of the booklet-back is provided with a souvenir or advertising imprint and at the same time is formed as a colorless transparent selfsticking surface 2. The latter is protected by a transparent tearable cover foil 3 that has a partially protruding rim portion 4 for taking hold thereof.
In the two examples shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the cover foil is seized on the protrudin margin 4 and torn off immediately prior to gluing the booklet on to a pack of smoking goods.
The match booklet shown in FIG. 3 is provided with a normal selfsticking surface 2 on the outside of its entire ice back portion. On said surface 2 is mounted a tearable souvenir or advertising cover leaf 6 of which the side adjacent to the selfsticking surface 2 is provided with a dry adhesive 7 as indicated by the dash-line shown. The advertising or souvenir cover-leaf 6 after having been torn-off from booklet 1, may be pasted into an album or on to a trunk or handbag or the like. These cover leaves also may be formed as visiting card to be pasted in or as gasoline stamp, check, free-admission ticket, recipe or the like.
The match booklet shown in FIG. 4 comprises on its back-portion on two opposite marginal areas, as shown in FIG. 1, two selfsticking surfaces 2 formed as strips which are covered by a common cover foil 3. On the latter is mounted a tearable souvenir or advertising cover leaf 6 that is provided with selfsticking material 2. The cover leaf 6 together with the cover foil 3 may be tornoff from the booklet 1 before pasting the booklet on to a pack of smoking goods, and may then be pasted on to a trunk or into an album or the like after having removed the cover foil 3 from the cover leaf 6.
When in the lighting utensil shown and desscribed a transparent cover leaf is used, the selfsticking material (selfsticking strip) also has to be transparent. Further, the embodiment comprising two spaced selfsticking strips may be provided with a tearable souvenir or advertising cover leaf that is coated with a dry adhesive or a selfsticking substance. These cover leaves also may be adapted for pasting into notebooks, memorandum books and the like. The selfsticking substance is applied (by spraying) directly on to the entire area or in the form of stripes onto the rear of the match-booklet.
While the invention has been described in detail with respect to a now preferred example and embodiment of the invention it will be understood by those skilled in the art after understanding the invention, that various changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention and it is intended, therefore, to cover all such changes and modifications in the appended claim.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A paper match booklet comprising,
(a) front and back cover walls,
(b) two spaced colorless transparent selfsticking adhesive strips adhesively secured to the back cover wall of the match booklet,
(c) a removable cover foil having an adhesive coating on its entire inner face overlying and engaged with the spaced adhesive strips and capable of removal by engaging the cover foil at the sides thereof between the spaced adhesive strips whereby the paper match booklet may be adhesively attached to a cigarette package, and
(d) said cover foil adapted to be adhesively mounted on another surface.
