Description
May 21, 1968 E. HEGEDUS HANGING FILING-CARD CABINETS Filed May 16, 1966 United States Patent 3,384,093 HANGING FILING-CARD CABINETS Eduardo Hegedus, Rua Piaui 247, Apt. 92, Sao Paulo, Brazil Filed May 16, 1966, Ser. No. 550,373 Claims priority, application Brazil, June 3, 1965,
1 Claim. Ci. 129-161) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A hanging card system comprising a drawer having opposite upper edges and a plurality of metal strips having ends removably engaging the upper edges and forming supporting elements, a filing card having an upper end folded over and secured on each of the metal strips between the ends, the upper end defining at least one slot adjacent the metal strip exposing an adjacent area of the metal strip. Means are provided for preventing removal of a desired selection of filing cards, and magnetized means for being placed adjacent the exposed area of the metal strips for withdrawing the remaining freely hanging filing cards is provided.
The present invention relates to hanging filing card cabinets, in general, and to hanging filing card cabinets with magnetic removal means, in particular.
It is known that hanging filing-card drawers from which filing-cards are selected by means of a stiletto or long needle, present a serious defect, in that the selection is made by inserting the stiletto in the holes provided in the lower border of the filing-cards, the alignment of while holes is made in accordance with a predetermined code; and the withdrawal of the filing-cards selected for withdrawal by the stiletto holding the remaining cards, is made in a somewhat slow manner, in spite of the filingcards being preselected.
It is one object of the present invention to provide a hanging filing-card drawer wherein the sorting-out of the filing-cards is made in a simplified and novel manner, wherein, once the stiletto is inserted, the loose filing-cards can be withdrawn all together, since the novel combination of suspended cards or sheets combined with holes and slots, respectfully, permits insertion of stilettos into the aligned holes and slots, respectively, regardless of the thickness of the cards.
With this and other object in view which will become apparent in the following detailed description, the present invention will be clearly understood in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a filing-card drawer;
FIG. 2 shows the same view as in FIG. 1, but in the first phase of sorting-out the filing-cards from the drawer prior to withdrawal; and
FIG. 3 shows the same perspective view, but with some of the filing-cards already sorted-out and withdrawn from the drawer.
Referring now to the drawing, and in particular to FIG. 1, an improved hanging-card drawer designed in accordance with the present invention, comprises a drawer 1 or filing-cabinet, with holes 2 for sorting-out the filing-cards 4, by means of a stiletto 3, the holes are provided in the front wall of the drawer, the upper borders of the filing-cards being folded over magnetic metal strips 5, on which they are glued, and which metal strips pro- "ice ject beyond the sides of the drawer, thus forming supporting elements 6, for the filing-cards.
In accordance with the present invention, the foldec over upper ends of the filing-cards 4, are provided witi one or more slots 7, exposing parts of the respective meta strips so that, after the filing-cards 4 have been sorted out, by the stiletto 3, the loose filing-cards can be with drawn simultaneously by a magnetized rod 8, (FIGS. I
and 3) or other suitable instrument, also magnetized.
Increasing the attracting power of the magnetic fielc of the magnetized extracting instrument and the exposet portions of the supporting metal strip of the filing can is unnecessary.
The filing-card cabinet, in accordance with the presen invention, enables only loose filing-cards to be withdraw! together, after the stiletto 3 is inserted when the filing cards are still in the drawer. The filing cards are Suspender on the metal strips 5 and have their lower ends spaced i1 suspended position from the bottom of the drawer. Th1 filing cards have also a plurality of a group of holes am a plurality of slots open at their lower end and disposer at the level of the holes of the drawer.
The stiletto 3 is inserted at first in the holes of th drawer and then, selectively into holes of a first group 0 cards and into slots of a second group of cards, respec tively, thereby rendering possible the removal of the sec ond group of said cards and preventing removal of th first group of said cards.
While I have disclosed one embodiment of the presen invention, it is to be understood that this embodiment i given by example only and not in a limiting sense, thi scope of the present invention being determined by th objects and the claim.
What I claim is:
1. A hanging card system comprising a drawer having spaced upper edges and a bottom, am a plurality of holes provided in the front wall thereo at a predetermined level thereof,
a plurality of magnetic metal strips having ends remov ably supported on said upper edges,
a filing card having an upper end folded over each 0 said metal strips between said ends, thereby hangin on said metal strips, and having a lower end spacer in hanging position from the bottom of said drawer and further having a plurality of a group of hole and a plurality of slots open at their lower end ant disposed at the level of said holes of said drawer.
said folded upper end having at least one slot posi tioned adjacent said metal strips exposing a portioi of said metal strips, and the latter being aligned it each other,
stiletto means inserted in said holes of said drawe and selectively into said holes of a first group of sai cards and into said slots of a second group of sail cards, respectively, thereby rendering possible th removal of said second group of said cards, and pre venting removal of said first group of said cards, ant
magnetized rod means engaging said metal strips to withdrawing said second group of filing cards b1 mutual magnetic attraction of said magnetized mean and said metal strips.
