To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, FRANK Runs, of the city and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Repeating Fire-Arms, of which the following is a specification.

The chain H passes from the chain-wheel near'the butt of ,the stoclrbeneath the-pulley H. and to the chain-wheel T,;that gives motion tothe tumbler as in my aforesaid application, but I construct the chain of'longand short links, the long'links beingin pairs and the short links occupying intermediate positions, as shown in Fig. 6, and in the detached view, Fig. 14, the object of this construction being the toggles, andarear elevation of the revolv- 7 to obtain the spaces necessary for the teeth of the chain-wheels,-sotha't said teeth may project up between the linlisl l andcome against the ends of the links 22.. In this manner theteeth are made sufiicientlylarge to obtain the necessary strength, and the links of the chain are straight'and not liable either to slip upon the chain-wheels or to break in consequence of the sudden stopping and starting of the arts.

When the cartridges are being supplied by hand into the chamber )I, it is convenient to hold the door in open. I accomplish this by means of aspring-catch, n, upon the side plat'e,'E'. (See Fig. 9.) This spring-catch m passes into a mortise in the fingenpiece m of the door m and the springcatch yields to allow the door to close when suificientpressure is applied to the door. The follower o is within the magazine tube 0, and againstit the spring 0 acts to move the cartridge along into the revolving carrier.' 7 Upon this follower 0' is a ring-flange, 1, and the stop-piece c and finger-piece c are provided as in said application'to prevent the follower a passing out into the revolving carrier. \Vhen the cartridge hasbeen conveyed away by the car- .rier from the magazine, the end of the follower o' ro'ectin into the carrier rereuts P J g the same. being "revolved. I combine along with this stop 0 and the finger-piece c a grai ity-latch, c ,.occupying aslotin the stem of the stop'c. (See Figs. 3 and i.) This gravity-latch drops into the position shown in Fig. 3and prevents the finger-piece c" being moved forward when the fire-arm is held in a horizontal position, because the end of the gravity-latch drops over and catches against v a portion of the housing. If, now, the fire-arm is held in a vertical positio nthis gravity-latch will hang out of theway of the housing, and the finger piece c and stop 0" can be moved so as to drawthe follower 0 out of and away from the spent-cartridge shell, because itdrops by gravity back into the ejecting-chamber 1L 1 when cartridges are supplied one at a time 'the spent shell'is ejected. The .screw 0 can be screwed in behind the last cartridge in the magazine,so as. to retain the cartridges therein "sary range of motion an additional spring;

.In Figs. 12 and 13 I have represented a magazine extension-tube G, the same having a socket to slip over the outside-{of the mega-- zine-tube G, and there is a spring-clip, C or other fastening device to connect the magazine extension-tube to. the magazine. This allows for the introduction of a large number of car-' tridges, and the spring 0 of the ordinary magazine and the follower a pass into this mega zine extension-tube, and to obtain the neces c,is provided within the magazineextensiontube G. magazine extension tube may be pointed atthe outerend and 1 provided wit-ha crossrpiece, 0, near the inner end to allow for its use as a weapon, if needed. A movable cap is to be provided for the end of the magazine-tube 0 when the extension-tubeisremoved,and lalso find that it is important to keep moisture out of the barrel; In cases where corksor plugs have been made 'use of they are liable to be lost. I form the outer end of the barrel with a slightly-tapering bore of a sizeto receive a spent-cartridge caseso that such a case can. be used as aplug, and I find that it is much bet ter thap the plugs heretofore used because it is absolutely water-proof, and can be pulled out or replaced with great facility.
I find that it is preferable to make use of a steel plate at the end 26 of the sear S, because the same is ez'rposed to both concussion and wear; but it is preferable toinsert a plate of brass or copper between this steel plate and the end of the sear, in orderthat the comparatively soft metal may accommodate itself to the surfaces of the steel and act'as a cushion in lessening concussion. Similar plates may be placed at the inner surfaces of the trigger-hookf. p
I claim as my invention- 1. The combination, with the tumbler K and the lock mechanism of the fire-arm operated by the tumbler and the spring, of a chain madeof short; links introduced between longer links, and the chain-wheels having pro- As a matter of convenience, this tjecting teeth that pass-in between t'liepairs of longer links and acting against the shorter links, substantially as specified.

The combination, with the trigger F and its-hook, revolving tumbler K, reciprocating breechbolt,- toggle-arms L and L and pin 1 of the blocking-piece f", extending out from the rear of the trigger-hook, with its end adjacent to the teeth 7 upon the tumbler 'K, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
7. The combination, with the magazine below the barrel, the follower 0' within the magazine, stop a for the said follower, and fingerpiece 0 outside the magazine, of the gravitylatch 0 connected to the stop, substantially as and for the purposes set fort-h.

The combination, with therevolvingcarrier behind the barrel, and the magazine-tube below the barrel, of, the follower 0 within the magazine-tube, the; stop below the follower, the finger-piece outside the magazine for moving the stop and follower, and the-screw a passing in from outside the housing for clamping the follower, as and for the purposes set forth.
