. "The object of my invention is to provide a STATES NlTE PATENT LEWELLEN A. ELY, OF MUIR, MICHIGAN.
EPBCIPICAIIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 337,315, dated March 2, 1886.
Application filed May 19, 1885. Serial No. 166,046.
(No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LEWELLEN A. ELY, of Muir, in the county of Ionia and State of Michigan, have invented anew and Improved Exhibitor for Paper-Hangings, Borders, and like Articles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
new and improved exhibitor for holding and exhibiting a number of samples of wall-paper, borders, pictures, fabrics, engravings, oilcloths, carpets, and other like articles.
The invention consists in the combination, with an upright rod or tube, of a sleeve surrounding it, frames hung, on the sleeve, and handles on. the sleeve for turning it.
The invention also consists in the combination, with parts and details and combination of the same, as will be fully set forth hereinafter.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a side view of my improved exhibitor, parts being broken out and others shown in section. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view of one of the apertured collars. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the fixed collar.
On the foot A, which may have any'desired shape or pattern, the turned base B is secured, and from the same a metal tube or rod, 0, projects upward, and is provided with a fixed collar, D. The rod or tube 0 is surrounded by two sleeves or tubes, E and E, the former resting on the base B and the latter on the collar D. A collar, F, is formed on the lower end of the tube E and provided with handles G, and a collar, F, formed on the lower end of the tube E, is provided with metal handles G. The collars F and F have annular grooves on their upper surfaces, and on the tops of said collars F F and on the upper ends of the tubes E E flat metal rings H and H and J and J, respectively, are secured, each ring being provided with numerous apertures. Frames K and K, which may be made of wire, wood, sheet metal, or other suitable material, are provided at their inner ends and at the top and bottom with the upwardly and downwardly projecting pivots or pins N M and N M, which are passed into the apertures in the rings J J and H H, respectively. An ornamental head, 0, is held on the top of the tube or rod 0 by a pin, P. The frames K K can swing laterally on the tubes E E, and the tubes can be turned on the rod or tube 0 by means of the handles G and G, and thus the several frames K K, on which the samples of paper-hangings and like articles are secured, can be brought in front of the spectator.
By means of my improved device customers are enabled to compare the wall-papers with the borders, as the wall-papers are to be kept on the lower frames and the borders on the upper frames, and each upper frame can be brought over any desired lower frame.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. An exhibitor, substantially as described, comprising a shaft or support and a-plurality of series of frames supported one above the other on said shaft, the frames of each series being movable independently of those of the other, whereby any one of the frames of the upper series may be adjusted above any desired frame of the lower series, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. The combination of the supporting-shaft of a tube, E, placed'thereon and having handles G, and a collar, F, having an annular groove in its upper side, apertured rings placed on said collar and on the upper end -of-the sleeve, and frames supported between said apertured plates, substantially as set forth.
3. In an exhibitor, the combination, with an upright tube, of a sleeve surrounding. the same loosely, a collar having an annular groove in its top formed on the lower end of the sleeve, an apertured ring on the top of the collar, and alike ring on the top of the sleeve, and of frames having top and bottom pins passed into the apertures in the rings, substantially a herein shown and described. I
4t. In an exhibitor, the combination, with the upright tube or rod 0, having the fixed collar D, of the sleeves E E, surrounding the tube or rod C loosely, aper'tured rings on the ends of the tubes, and of wings having top and bottom pins passed into the apertures in the rings,
substantially as herein shown and described.
5. In an exhibitor, the combination of the upright shaft 01 rod having a fixed collar, D, the sleeves on the shaft, one above said collar,
movable rotaril y in parallel horizontal planes independently one of the other, and supports, substantially as and for the purposes specified. 1c
and the frames supported on said sleeves, sub- LEWELLEN A. ELY. 5 stantially as set forth. Witnesses:
6. The combination of a plurality of series FRANK H. DAVIS, of frames arranged one above the other and ELMER H. ELY.
