NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL J MILLER AND MICHAEL J. MGKENNA, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINN.
CARPET-CLEANING REEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 336,936, dated March 2, 1886.
Application fiYed December 29, mm. Serial No. 151.459. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern-.-
Be it known that we, SAMUEL J. MILLER and MIoHAEL J. MCKENNA, citizens of the United States, residing at-Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Carpet-Cleaning Reels, of which the following is a specification, to wit:
This invention relates'to an improvement in carpet cleaners; and it consists in certain peculiarities of the construction and operation of the same, substantially as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal section, and Fig. 2 a transverse section,of a carpet-cleaning reel embodying my invention.
A represents a reel, such as ordinarily used in carpet-cleaning machines, composed of' heads a a and longitudinal slatted slides a, andhas a hinged door, 0?, for the convenient Within the reel, at each alternate corner, is secured a litter, B, composed of longitudinal bars, b, secured at each end to crosspieces b, which are bolted through the head of the reel, as shown. Three cross-bars, b, are secured to the bars I) at suitable intervals, and the ends of these are turned down to form bolts, which pass through the corner of the reel, and are secured by nuts 0 upon the outer side. This forms a very strong wing or lifter, which catche'siand lifts the carpet as the reel revolves, and drops it again from the top, completely clearing it of dirt in a short time, and is not liable to injure the carpet in any way.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the angular slatted reel A, of the lifting-wings B at each alternate corner, composed of the bars I), secured at their ends to pieces 12, bolted through the heads of the reel, and having cross-bars b", the
ends of which are reduced to form bolts, which pass through the corner, and are secured by nuts 0 on the outside, substantially as set forth. In testimony whereof we aflix oursignatures in presence of two witnesses.
