UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDRIOH BURGKHARDT, OF ST. CHARLES, MISSOURI.
BOLTING-REEL ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part 0! Letters Patent No. 313,988, dated March 17, 1885 Application filed June 21, 1884. (X0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDRIoII BURCK- HARDT, of St. GharlesJin the county of St. Charles and State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Bolting-Reel Attachments, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, referencebeing hadtotheaccompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and
in which Figure 1 is a vertical transverse section of a flour-bolt having my improvement, taken on line 1 1, Fig. 2; and Fig. 2 is a side elevation with .part of the casing or housingremoved.
My invention relates to an attachment for cleaning the cloth of the reel automatically; and my invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a bolting-reel of ordinary construction inclosed within a common casing or housing, B. Secured to the heads A of the reel are pins or projections 0, preferably one (oneach disk) at each corner of the reel, as shown in Fig. 2.
D represents a knocker consisting, preferably, of a brush, supported on the free ends of arms I, hinged to the housing, as shown at I, one at each end of the reel. These arms are held against the pins 0 as the reel revolves by springs J; but the pins hold the arms far enough back for the knocker not to come in contact with the reel, except when the pins come opposite depressions or notches L in the arms, and then the springs force the arms inward, causing the knocker to strike the cloth of the reel to clean it. The depressions or notches are quite short, so that as soon as the knocker strikes the reel it is forced outward or back again, so as not ,to rub on the reel.
My improved knocker will thus keep the FREDRIOH BURcKHan-Dr.
In presence oi'- GEO. H. KNIGHT, SAML. KNIGHT.
